Ford may actually make a half-way decent looking car for once? I find it hard to believe it was designed by Ford alone. They must have had Mazda, Jaguar or Volvo helping with the design.

Is anyone else dumbstruck by how most of the solutions to Ford’s US problems (lack of competitive small cars, family sedans, minivans, etc) are all sitting in their European lineup?

I think Ford’s US problems are situated in or near Bill Ford’s office. Ugly cars don’t kill car companies, people kill car companies.

That looks amazing… the concept seems to have Lexus overtones to me, but the rendering looks a lot like that Porsche Panamera…. way cooler than a Fusion!
It does – i noticed it first as reminiscent of an Aston Martin – which also shares a fair bit with the Jaguar XK in shape. This mondeo concept though, has more angles, like the Jag, so I think you’re defintely right.

1. Jag, Aston owned by the same company… FORD
Hence similar styling.
2. I bet 100 pounds that the new mondeo looks nothing like the concept, because they never do.
I work for the design department for BMW, And all concpet cars represent is the ‘Essence’ or spirit of what the car.
The Mondeo is a low-medium price bracket car so why should Ford spend money on new parts when they can use existing OEM parts from the focus and old mondeo.
Yes, I’m aware Ford owns them both, and we’ve already established that the styling is similar. Afterall, I believe Jag and AML have shared the same chief designer. That doesn’t stop this concept from looking great. Surely you can let us ooh and ahh for a day or two.

I think it could happen. Ford, being smaller than GM, has the capabilities and from what I get from “The Way Forward” to become a lower volume manufacturer in support of more niche models. I think they even started on this trail a few years back when they began curtailing their fleet sales. Unfortunately this is all at the expense of jobs, but a workforce reduction is better than closing the doors all togehter.
And I do agree about Ford Europe cars being better. I think the current Mondeo is 10 times better than the Taurus ever was but they wouldn’t bring it to the states because it wouldn’t hurt Taurus sales. I think that is the same reason why they aren’t bringing the new Focus to the states as it would be too close in size and price to the Fusion.
And if you are talking about an exec that causes problems…let’s talk about Bob Lutz shall we? He is called over and over again a “car czar” but has yet to produce something that has helped GM. I am afraid GM is a sinking ship that is too big to change course. I just hope that it doesn’t destroy the US economy along with it.
Wow, styling cues stolen from everyone…but it works. I love it!
I wonder what platform? This would be a MUST-HAVE in a rear drive platform.
However I would bet it would be on a ‘6′ platform.

That’s one hot-looking car. Lexus should steal the front end and lower body design for their new SC convertible and slap on a Lexus ‘L’ logo in place of the blue oval.

1. Ford has been doing a “World wide One car program for yeas. First car was the ford tempo. And is you look at the Ford Contour, It is the American version of the ford Mondeo. And the Focus…. Well it is the Focus from Europe.
2. I personally think Bill Ford is doing a better job that that idiot French guy who was running the company a few years ago.
3. It seems that ford has more money than GM and Dodge to own car companies like Jag and Aston Martin.
4. It looks like the back has the design of a RX-8.
5. If you want a awesome car go to http://www.fpv.com.au. That is a Ford we shall never see. The GT-p uses boss 209 engines and the F6 Typhoon has a Turbocharges 4.0 Inline 6. Too bad they wont hit the U.S.

A long time since this was posted, I know, but I had to mention…
Not seen US Fords recently, but Euro Fords are awesome.
Focus ST, Fiesta ST, Mondeo ST220 are all steps in the right direction.
However, what James said is true – I was lucky enough to be in aus for a whole month in Jan! FPV cars, and even standard Ford XR models of their brilliant Falcon are cars well worth looking into.
The UK market has Mondeos which are FWD and in my opinion they should offer the Mk3 Mondeo like they did the Mk1 – in 4WD. RWD doesn’t fly here well as on the offchance it snows here, the BMWs and Mercs are usually the ones holding up traffic as they struggle to make it up a hill.
The Aussie Ford Falcon? RWD but not like a stang’s simple suspension, for example.
They borrow from the Focus’s excellent Control Blade (cheaper version of multilink that threw the Focus to success!) suspension.
So, as big RWD Fords go, Aus is the place to be!
