#28, "Hmm… but then again this would steal sales away from the soltice and sky which is retarded from a business point of view (maybe more selections?)."

I think I like this design more than the Solstice...although I'm not big on these 2 seater cabs....
Maybe they're just trying to cover their bases like you say....a lot of people don't / wouldn't even know that it's a GM product and buy a Saab for the nameplate...and maybe they say cool, Solstice...but lame name and crappy styling...I'll go for the Saab. So I agree about the "more selections" point of view, although you get a design or platform so over saturated that it loses it's cool. It's like the post above....McDonalds, Wendy's...what ever....somewhere down the line the same farmer is selling the meat that goes into the burger. People buy for the wrapper it comes in. (most of them anyways).

Normally i'll join you in a fun GM bashing. But I'd choose the corvette over M6. As for the sky and mx5 it's 350z unless they're different segment.

I can't believe they're rebadging this. Saab is dead and they're going to beat the dead horse with this crap. Maybe, they're using the Kappa platform but they can improve the body ridgity and good suspension. Hmm... but then again this would steal sales away from the soltice and sky which is retarded from a business point of view (maybe more selections?).

THe cars crap and comment eleven 11 Don, U ain't got a clue what you talking about. The Mercedes Benz GL, BMW X5 is better then any cadillac chevy truck and have worser mpg then either. The sky/soltice is nowhere near as good as the Mazda MX5 and the corvette can't touch the BMW M6. They are all outclassed even thought they are same price/spec/but the GM cars have a shitter badge.

In your article on the future of SAAB, you state "9-5X, meanwhile, seems to jive with a recent leaked sketch from GM.".

The correct word is "jibe".

Jive (although a common mistake made in the English language) has a different meaning than that which you are trying to convey.

I think Gm no realized that rebuilding the Saab brand with half-hearted investments and stop gap models like the 9-2 and 9-7 simply will not do. Nice concepts but Saab need genuine new products now and not later. Maybe then Saab can catch up with its cross town rival Volvo which is in a better shape under Ford.

Debating about the quality of Honda and Toyota vs. Chevy and Ford is like debating who makes a better hamburger, Burger King, Carl’s Jr., McDonalds, or Wendy’s. In the end it’s still just fast food and I haven’t eaten that sh** since high school.

And one more thing, other than the Sky, Solstice, and Corvette, I don't find any GM vehicles particularly appealing. I don't care for the large trucks and SUVs. I like small, sporty cars, especially hatchbacks. For the most part, GM vehicles are bland and several vehicles are few years behind their counterparts from other brands that have seen more recent updates. I think if GM would shorten their product lifetime to 4-5 years like Toyota, Nissan, and Honda, that would solve that problem.

But back to the topic at hand, I do like this Saab roadster photochop. I think if they made a hatchback out of it, Saab would have it made. It would bring back the classic Saab hatchback profile and it would help solve the trunk issues that are present with the Kappa roadsters. Plus, it would be the Kappa hardtop, which would be a good way to further differentiate it from Pontiac and Saturn. I'm not as crazy about the 9-5x.

#15, I'm hardly a GM apologist since I've posted many times before that I proudly drive a Mazda (although I've also stated that I have a Sky on order). I'm just saying that most of the anti-GM arguments are fluff. Yes, GM was arrogant towards it's customers and still is in some respects, but not any more than the almighty Honda and Toyota. I just tend to think that people should buy cars by actually TEST DRIVING them and deciding for themselves, not simply eliminating options because of beliefs and past experiences that may or may not be true any more.

"And better resale value"

I know few people other than Honda and Toyota owners that even care about resale value. Most people around here drive their vehicles until they die.

"And better build quality and engineering"

See my comment about most GM vehicles not being any worse than Honda or Toyota. No one seems to say anything when Toyota has a massive recall, but everyone jumps all over GM.

"And better emissions and fuel economy"
I can give you that one since GM is definitely behind the game when it comes to hybrids. But then again, the full-size GM trucks and SUVs that everyone loves to hate, get better fuel economy than the equivalent Honda and Toyota vehicles and with E85, get better emissions. And around here, every station has an E85 pump.

"I can go on and on here"
Please do.

How about a Kappa with a usable trunk? my old '94 BMW 325 is a great roadtrip car. I get to put stuff in the back seats (under the windscreen) and in the 7.5 cubic feet trunk. Then, my 5-speed with the sports package takes me there doing 400-miles per tank at around 26mpg, top down. That's living.

the Saabura was bad enough....

"Toyota and Honda just have the advantage of not being bound and gagged by the UAW."

And better resale value
And better build quality and engineering
And better emissions and fuel economy
I can go on and on here

I'm getting a bit sick of all the anti-GM sentiment on these message boards. Sure GM makes a lot of crappy cars, but they also make several good ones. The Corvette. The Solstice/Sky. Even the full size trucks and SUVs that everyone seems to love slamming are still the best vehicles in their classes. Yes, those classes are shrinking, but they still dominate. And most of the other GM vehicles aren't any worse than Toyotas or Hondas. Toyota and Honda just have the advantage of not being bound and gagged by the UAW.

GM could preview the new corolla before toyota, just to see you all say how crappy it was, and then they could hold a joint press conference saying how it was the new corolla, and you're all stupid, and then you'd all say how great it was.

having the key on the floor prevents hot wiring doesn't it, since it is much harder to break the plastic of a center console than then yanking on the steering column, no?

Good looking roadster, the rebirth of teh Sonnet is coming........and I can't wait! Not too sure about that wagon, but then again people loved the Chevy Nomad concept, so I guess it's worth a shot. Besides, a turbo-charged sports car, with a decent, non-cheap GM feel would definitely draw some attention....though the key better be in the RIGHT place and there better be Night Panel! Real-wheel drive, why not? Could be a whole new direction for the company, as long as they keep their personality and reamain unwilling to sacrifice quaility. This is definitely looking promising...

Saab has finally found its design language and I think it has more legs than Volvo's "shoulders" theme which seems to be played out already.

I'm really sick of GM rebadging. They should make a different set of platforms for every one of their brands. I can't believe they would use kappa for Saab. They should make a brand new small-RWD platform if Saab is to get a roadster. (sarcasm)

Leave it to GM to rebadge the Kappa for a Saab. Where's the Buick, Chevy and Caddy versions of this thing? How bout a GMC?
