When Chevrolet first showed the world its concept Camaro, there was an instant following that couldn’t wait to get their hands on the production car. For those content with a closed roof experience, the arrival of the 2010 Camaro in coupe form was just what the doctor needed.

For those who wished to feel the wind in their hair while they enjoyed their Camaro, patience would be a necessary virtue as the drop-top has yet to even hit dealer lots. But alas, the wait is nearly over as GM has confirmed that the Camaro Convertible has officially entered production, a milestone marked by visits from both Rick Hendrick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. at the Oshawa Assembly Plant in Canada, where the Camaro is assembled.

“I grew up loving the Chevrolet brand, and I’ve never raced anything else,” Hendrick said. “As a Chevy enthusiast, it’s been exciting to see the Camaro return as such a world-class, high-performance car. The folks in Oshawa make some of the best products on the road, so the opportunity to meet them and thank them for what they do is a real privilege.”

Hendrick, if you recall, purchased the first 2010 Camaro coupe that was available for sale to the public, and now the NASCAR personality purchased the first available 2011 Camaro Convertible as well. Hendrick’s purchases both went through Barret-Jackson and the proceeds were donated to charity.

Now that production is underway, GM has confirmed that it is still on course to meet its expected delivery timeline that places the 2011 Camaro Convertible at dealers later this month.
