Jaguar has filed for trademarks on the names C-XJ and C-XE, suggesting the automaker is planning concept versions of its next-generation XJ sedan and forthcoming XE sports car. Jaguar first used the “C” designation for its C-XF concept, which previewed the all-new XF sedan.

The C-XJ is likely to debut some time next year. The next-generation XJ is expected to be sold as a 2011 model, meaning the production car could be unveiled as early as January 2010. Accordingly, the concept could debut in January of 2009 — one year ahead. (Notably, Jaguar ’s C-XF debuted one year before the XF.)

The C-XE, on the other hand, is a bit of a wild card. Rumors have long been circulating that Jaguar is planning a new sports car smaller and harder than the XK. It now appears a safe bet that vehicle will be named XE.

But timing of the C-XE concept’s debut is hard to pin down. The Porsche -fighter might be sold as a 2012 model, but so far nothing has been confirmed by sources. The two-seat XE is widely expected to borrow some design cues from the popular F-Type concept, with a more modern twist.
