Jaguar today announced an optional rear-seat entertainment technology known as the Rear Screen Connectivity System (RSCS) – an AV panel that allows rear-seat passengers to connect any digital device that has an audio/visual output. The RSCS consists of two seven-inch LCD screens integrated into the driver and front passenger headrests along with two dual-band infrared wireless headphones. It offers complete versatility allowing rear-seat passengers to connect any digital device from a DVD player to an MP3 player. It also features a slot for memory cards that can be used to for digital photos, videos, pocket PCs, and certain game consoles. The Leftlane Perspective: See how simple this is? Why can’t every automaker offer this type of interface? We’d especially like to see this on all cars in the front seats for iPod connectivity. (Otherwise, you’ll be stuck with one of these).
“With the integration of the Rear Screen Connectivity System, it’s the ultimate technology in vehicle personalization,” said Brenda Fevrier-Luhs, Jaguar North America Vehicle Accessories Sales & Marketing. “Ideally suited to satisfy all rear-seat passengers and keep them occupied throughout their journey in a Jaguar, the RSCS is extremely versatile and provides a luxury feature not available in all mid-size vehicles. We are the first OEM to introduce this scan disc/card reader technology before any other luxury automotive manufacturer.”
Located on the center console and facing the rear-seat passengers, the system supports two inputs. This allows for two separate devices to be used simultaneously and thus, provides passengers with the freedom to choose their own entertainment.
The RSCS is currently available now for ordering and will fit current model year X-TYPEs, as well as past model year 2004 and 2005 X-TYPEs. It also comes in various trim colors matching the vehicle’s interior. The suggested retail price is $1,499.00 USD ($1,999.00 Canadian) plus installation.
The RSCS for S-TYPE is targeted for August 2006 availability.

My Scion xB RS3 has these =^P. although the easy access AV jacks is a very nice touch. i have to take out the headdeck to access mine. Not really a big job but still not nearly as easy as something like that!

ss: run extension cables from the back of your head unit to the glovebox or center console. it’ll make your life much easier.

I’m still in disbelief that it took ANY manufacturer this long to come out with something like this. I mean, they’re just installing easy-to-reach RCA inputs. Not even S-video, component or HDMI! Well, HDMI might be a little ahead of the game, but you get the point.

All Land Rovers were avaliable with a similar system in 2006 with the exeption of the LR3. It uses a roof mounted fold down screen but still has the easy access RCA jacks.
The Range Rover Sport and Range Rover use this system just missing the memory card readers. I bet they will have the memory card readers avaliable sometime next year as well.

Such small features will not save a dull range like the current Xtype, Stype, and XJ sedans. Jaguar desperately needs new sedans to save the company. The new XK is a small step to the right direction but Jaguar needs more than this.
