The Saab museum in Trollhättan, Sweden, is not the only European auto museum whose future is in jeopardy. According to England’s Classic & Sports Cars, Jaguar has confirmed that it will close its factory museum next September, and that it has no plans to open it back up in the immediate future.
The Jaguar museum is located at the brand’s historic Browns Lane facility. Over the last couple of years, production has been moved elsewhere, the British brand has been closing Browns Lane piece by piece.
The museum is one of the last parts of the old factory to get the axe. Up until recently, it was assumed that it would be moved to a different location but that option has been ruled out.
Jaguar fans fear not: the 150 cars stored in the museum will not get auctioned off to the public, they just won’t be publicly displayed as a full collection. The company will continue to bring certain cars to international motorsports and vintage car event like the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Mille Miglia.
“It is an important collection and though there are no immediate plans to relocate it to a similar facility, as far as we are concerned our Heritage Centre is not closing at all – it is business as usual,” said a Jaguar spokesman. He added that “there are very exciting plans for the collection in terms of activity.”
