Jaguar, Land Rover production schedule leaked following sale to Tata

Following Wednesday's announcement that Jaguar and Land Rover officially belonged to India's Tata Motors, the luxury marques' future product plans were leaked. The plans continue all the way up to 2016 — although Tata has only agreed to guaranteed the next five years of production plans — and show some radical changes for the brands.

AutoWeek claims to have the inside goods on future Jaguar and Land Rover products, and here is what they say is in the works:

2009

Jaguar
For 2009, Jaguar will roll out an R version of its all-new XF sedan, plus an up-rated and XKR — nothing really new there. In addition to the new 5.0-liter supercharged V8 — delivering 500 horsepower — a naturally aspirated version of the same engine — producing 380 horsepower — will also be offered in Jaguar models (though it's unclear which ones).

Land Rover
Changes scheduled for Land Rover next year include a revised Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. The SUV's interiors will get the most attention, but Jag's 5.0-liter V8 will also be added under the hood.

2010

Jaguar
Jaguar will launch its all-new flagship XJ sedan in 2010. The XJ will take on some styling cues from the XF, but will remain more luxury-oriented than the XF. The new XJ will remain the same size, but its interior volume should increase thanks to better packaging.

Jaguar's ill-fated X-Type will finally get the ax in 2010. As previously reported, U.S. sales have already ended.

Land Rover
The LR3 will see a face lift in 2010, with a heavy emphasis on improving interior quality and fit and finish. Jaguar's aforementioned 380 horsepower 5.0L V8 will likely find its way under the 2010 LR3's hood, too.

2011

Land Rover
Land Rover's LRX concept will make production in 2011, but it remains unclear what Land Rover will call it. LR1 is in the mix but could be too entry-level and, on the opposite side of the coin, LR4 could be too up-market. Whatever Land Rover decides the name the SUV, the road-going version of the LRX will have a hybrid option.

2012

Jaguar
Jaguar's long-awaited throw-back sports car will finally make production in 2012. Currently dubbed the F-Type — although the production model could be called the XK-E — Jaguar is currently deciding whether to base the car on the XF or XK.

Land Rover
For 2012, a seven-seater version of the LRX is possible. Details remain scarce, but Land Rover is said to be aiming for the Mini Clubman's uniqueness.

2013

Jaguar
The range-extending Jaguar XF coupe should bow in 2013, although it still needs the green light from the company's new owners. With the XF sedan bowing this year, it begs the question why the world must wait until 2013 for a two-door version. But then again, it took Cadillac a while to produce the CTS coupe.

Contrary to recent rumors, there are no plans for an XF drop-top or wagon.

Land Rover
Land Rover's flagship Range Rover will be completely overhauled for 2013, and the changes will see the SUV become larger and more stylish. Perhaps the most staggering news about the new Range Rover is that it will sticker for an astonishing $200,000, thanks to its Bentley-like appointments. But despite the Range Rover's growth in luxury in size, fuel economy will see an increase — due to the use of light-weight materials and an available hybrid powertrain.

2014

Jaguar
2014 should see an all-new XF, complete with an all-alloy body construction. Little else is known about the next-generation XF but it will be designed alongside the 2015 XJ to keep costs down.

Land Rover
An all-new Range Rover Sport will bow in 2014 and will also switch to an all-aluminum body.

A new Land Rover Defender is also a possibility for 2014, although nothing is set in stone. However, Tata is said to be carefully considering the project as the Indian automaker has a growing interest in a rugged 4×4 model that could be sold throughout the world — think Toyota Land Cruiser.

2015-2016

Jaguar
An all-new XJ will join the Jaguar lineup.

Land Rover
Land Rover is due for a new LR3 sometime in 2015 or 2016, although it remains unclear what platform the new SUV will ride on.

  1. I think that it is awful presumptuous to state that there will even be gasoline by 2015. I hate to think what it will cost.

  2. You mean by 2030-2045, And who cares about Fuel it'll probably make a gradual climb, I mean come on people spend more on a cup of coffee, and milk than gas. . After seeing the new Jag review on 5th Gear I'm actually excited to see the new cars when they arrive in dealerships here in the US.

  3. Uh, so Jag's going to give us an XF coupe based on the current car ONE YEAR before the all-new model bows. With an F-type having just bowed, as well?

And Jag's going to completely redesign the XJ in 2010, and then redo it again in 2015? Right.

And the next Range Rover goes 10 seasons on the current platform, only to get massive and more than double in price? Not when it outsells the LR3 at $25k more.

I think that LLN is talking out of its backside here.

  6. Millionaires and billionaires buy Range Rovers, they are by far the nicest SUV on the market so do you think they wouldn't buy one if it was 200k and as nice as any Bentley? It's chump change for these people and Land Rover wants to bank on it. The Range Rover S/C already goes for about 100k.

Offering a new model right before a change is a common practice. You get the people that can't wait another year until the new model comes out so they buy the new coupe only to turn around and sell it to get the new-new coupe when that comes out. It doesn't effect costs much either because you're usually just carrying over the technology to the updated model.

  9. Rover and Jag have until 2011 to make themselves profitable per Ford Tata deal. After that Tata will decide which head/design/dick will roll. Those predictions and product plans are as solid as diarrhea. I am sure they were leaked to gain some job security.

  10. One of my neighbor just purchased a new XF, and drives it with a "look at me" attitude, always craning his neck to see whether people are looking at his car. I don't have the heart to tell him that it looks like the next generation Taurus.

  11. The XF is a peasant-looking car with a prince's price … pathetic.

  12. I just dont like the idea of Tata a company who builds the cheapest car in the world owning Land Rover, a company who builds some of the most exoensive suv's in the world, and jaguar a luxury car maker.

  14. What about a curry powered jag by 2016????? I’m not sure Tata will do anything good for jag/land rover. I’ve worked with a couple of Indian engineers and they would have to be the worst and most incompetent engineers I’ve ever worked with…..and I wasn’t building luxury cars!!!! There's a reason why in Australia so many fully qualified Indian engineers are working at 7-11 or driving taxis…..they are as useful as ashtrays on motorbikes………….good luck jag/land rover…….you'll need it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIP.

  15. Right, terminator, it's common practice for a company to release a new bodystyle for a car in the LAST YEAR they're producing it.

Can you name me ONE example where a manufacturer has done this?

  16. The whole thing sounds like bullshit, especially the bit about the XJ being totally redesigned 5 years apart. Also the 7-seater LRX part - in a compact 2-door SUV? Fuck you

Comment by DeansterTJ, posted on March27 at 12:24 pm
  17. I think it is partly right - ie new V8's, XJ and XK-E but there is important stuff missing.

How about new (entry) engines to replace the venerable 3.0 V6? How about hybrid-petrol and/or hybrid-diesel engines? How about uprated 3.0 liter diesel engines? How about an XK replacement and or the rumored XK 4 door version which apparently enjoys interest from Tata? With regard to steel/aluminum choice for the XK-E, I think that has to be aluminum else the car will be overweighted - like the current XF. The 2015 XJ replacement isn't that odd if you consider the car has been running on this chasis since 2003 and no major changes are expected for the restyled 2010 version….

  18. Uhm…who cares? These brands have been dead for over 10 years. Anyone worth their salt will look elsewhere for their vehicle of choice, be it Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Cadillac, or if they want to go ultra-luxury, Rolls-Royce.

  20. 1c3d0g - who cares? XK and XF are super competitive - see pre-orders for XF.

    Jag will be just fine.

  21. Comment 14 @ V2

I think you have seen the worst of Indian Engineers because whoever could not do anything in his country relocates to other countries, i think thats why they are in Australia driving taxis. ;-)
