The Jaguar XF has been available with a diesel powerplant from its launch last year in Europe, but the asthmatic 2.7L oil burner didn’t do too much for the Jag’s performance image. However, Jaguar is looking to correct its mistake and will be offering the 2010 XF with an all-new diesel engine.
The new twin-turbo V6 diesel displaces 3.0L and offers a healthy power boost over the outgoing engine. In base form the new engine develops 240 horsepower while in ‘S’ guise the diesel unit puts out a healthy 275 horsepower. However, horsepower is only part of the equation as the S trim diesel XF puts out a stout 443 lb-ft of torque from just 1,600 rpm.
That grunt is enough to push the diesel Cat from 0-60 in 5.9 seconds, on its way to an electronically limited 155 mph top speed. In addition to being 1.8 seconds quicker to 60 than the outgoing powerplant, the new unit is also much more fuel efficient, posting a 12 percent improvement to 35 mpg U.S.
No word if Jaguar plans to bring the new diesel XF to the States, but if BMW’s and Mercedes diesel efforts in the U.S. pay off, the oil burning XF could be U.S.-bound.

I wish diesels would come here. 440 lb ft of torque and 35 mpg? That is awesome.
