With the XFR lagging behind the latest crop of super sedans from Germany and America in terms of sheer firepower, Jaguar is contemplating the creation of a hotter XFR-S variant.
With the “R-S” designation already well established by the XKR-S coupe and convertible models, sources at Jaguar admit that the automaker will likely “give the XFR the same treatment,†Autocar reports.
Jaguar would likely employ the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 from the XKR-S under the hood of the XFR-S. With 550 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque, the motor would put the XFR-S in the same league as the BMW M5 (560 horsepower, 500 lb-ft) and Cadillac CTS-V (556 horsepower, 551 lb-ft). In comparison, the XFR makes do with “just” 510 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of twist.
Aside from installing the more powerful engine, Jaguar would presumably only need to perform a few styling and suspension tweaks to the XFR to make the XFR-S a reality. If built, Jaguar’s range-topping mid-size sedan would likely command around $90,000 to start.
