Further proof that Ford is getting close to selling the AM brand. They’ll make the discount version (if $90k is a discount versus the $250+ that the AM’s go for) with no concern for cannibalizing a now viewed competitor. The blurring of pricing and blurring of product portfolio will come at the right time as the AM name plate is taken off the letter head of the glass house.

I think it could greatly work to their advantage. I wonder if this is a precursor to a Rapide competitor of just a new XJ that will have some flair?

As I’m not an M&A guy by education or profession, maybe someone with that background can chime in regarding whether there would likely be any “barring direct competition” language that would work it’s way into the selling of Aston Martin? I know they signed an akin deal when the Ford Large Truck division was sold off to Sterling. Any comments?

Read people this is the replacment for the S-type not some quasi Aston Martin competitor. I would expect this to be priced somewhere between 40,000 for the base model to mid 50’s for the loaded one.

I like what I see here…this is a concept that the next gen S-type, witch will be renamed the XF, will be based on

The fit gap on that deck/boot lid is 7-8mm!!

I thought the bar set by Lexus was 4mm?

One close-up teaser photo showing crappy British panel gaps. Nice.

Well now that Aston is being sold, they need to make Jag the hottest Ford brand and sell it too! Eventually, it will be the core Ford brand’s turn. See?

@bacalao, so true… I like that DB9 tho. Can I get a witness?

MyGodBeatsYourGod,
That’s good though, gives it enough space to fit your head into the trunk without opening it. In all seriousness, I don’t think anyone is going to be taking and of your idiotic comments seriously when your name is what it is.

No one mentioned how cool the neon tail lights are. Nicely sculpted rear haunches make me want to see the rest of it. Panel gap whatever, it’s a nice looking ride. You can’t tell a damn thing about panel gap from that photo, and your eagle eye is claiming a 3mm discrepancy? Ever seen the panel gaps on a Dodge Viper? Crappy American panel gaps the size of the grand canyon. And this car will sell for 1/2 the price. Whatever, it’s a nice Jag.

I agree that cars look much better with minimal panel gaps but from what I was told, they are sometimes actually large ON PURPOSE for airflow, reducing drag etc. A good example is the Lamborghini Diablo…I always thought the gaps were huge for a 200k car but upon further investigation, was told it was purposeful/functional…anyone else know if this is true?

Jeez, some people will just nit-pick something to death, like a bunch of old crow women! PANEL GAPS? ON A PICTURE without even SEEING the car up close? Man, get a life! WAIT until you see the finished product and check it out in the flesh….then nit-pick what NEEDS to be nit-picked, if anything!

I myself like the taillights, but will not make my judgement until I see the entire car…..

There!

Oh my.. are those Nissan Pathfinder-like door handles in the rear door window surround? I sincerely hope this is just another concept and not a production trait.. that is very UNJaguar.

And what’s up with the March 1, 2007 date if the concept is due in Detroit in January? Is the production XF supposed to be available that soon? Or is that the European dating convention, which would mean January 3, 2007? That sounds more likely.

^ like said before, it’s amazing how you pick nitpick every single thing from a picture and are so quick to judge and give negative comments.
News Flash – Nissan Pathfinders are NOT the only, nor first to have door handles like that. It’s something that’s seen on many other cars (ex. Honda/Acura NSX, various Lamborghinis, Ferraris, etc.).
I bet if this was a picture of another car like a BMW or Nissan Skyline there would be a different tone reflected on these comments and people would be praising it.
It’s ok, whatever no sweat. Judge all you want, but most of you that are negatively critizising them probably drive some broke-down POS hooptie. :)

First of all, Andre.. there isn’t much to nitpick from that picture considering it is a TEASER shot, which is intended to highlight specific features. By the way, if we don’t comment on things we see posted here, what do you propose we do in a FORUM? Secondly, my comment had nothing to do with how many different cars have the door handles in the pillars – my comment was how many JAGUARS do? Judging by the tone/language of your posts, you probably aren’t old enough to understand the idea of vehicle heritage.. the Scion or Kia you likely drive didn’t even exist as a brand 20 years ago. Of all the vehicle brands on the road today, Jaguar is probably one of the most dependent on it’s conservative styling history (just look at the XJ, which looks remarkably like its 1960s counterpart).. and roof pillar door handles seem a bit radical for such a classic brand. THAT’S what I meant — it has nothing to do with hating or judging, just a commentary about a feature spotted in their little teaser photo. If I really wanted to hate, I’d tear into those Lincoln Mark VIII taillights… :)

Okay see the mistake everyone makes about jaguar is that they are conservative. jaguar shouldnt be conservative it should be elegant and classic. Look at their old skool sucesful models the E-type looked nothing like the next coupe yet both cars are clasics. the XJ looked very different to the MK 2 as well. jaguar should be a leader in the classy sporty market. now about those panel gaps. yeah they seem larger than normal but this could be a stylin feature to acentuate the shapes/

Autonutt: Jaguar’s clinging to its classic styling has done nothing for the firm. Sales are slow; people are buying cars that are less stodgily styled. The XJ is the first luxury car out there that actually got lighter as it got older and bigger due to various weight saving techniques. However, Audi, Mercedes and the like out sell it, even though they are swelling like pigs at an all-u-can-eat trough.

Jaguar is soon going to more desirable than a Lakers cheerleader.

not enough in this pic to even comment on. Cant wait to see the whole car though. Ford gets cracked on for a lot of things (mostly deserved) but they should get credit for just keeping Jag alive. Without Ford, it might not even exist anymore. That would be tragic.

roofline look nice though, but yeah, there’s a ton of aston in there. it’ll be interesting if this XF is a bit of a coupe-sedan in the CLS and Rapide vein.

Jaguar couldn’t design a decent looking car if they tried. Nothing as beautiful as the Solstice, G6, CTS, STS, Escalade, Sierra, Cobalt, Lucerne, Lacrosse… etc. Heck there isn’t a bad looking car in the GM lineup that Jaguar could even begin to immitate.

That’s the Brits for ya though. They should just smarten up and buy Opels and Vauxhauls if they knew what was good for them. Go GM.
