Good point, autoluvr. Although the wait-in-line anticipation method I bet often works in favor of the dealer/Jaguar. If a dealer has 10 people on the waiting list (with the option of losing their place and getting a refund), then they probably line them up 1-2-3… based on the XFs that make it to the lot. Someone who wants a no-frills Jag might see that the next 6 coming to the lot have amentities that they ordinarily wouldn’t want, but will pay for because they’ve been waiting so long and don’t want to wait any longer.

Still, pre-orders are good news for Jag.

It’s very unlikely Jaguar has 3,000 credible pre-orders in the U.S. What they have are 3,000 deposits. Those deposits could be for as little as $ 500 (which is nothing for a $ 50,000 car) and they could be refundable (which means if I don’t like the car when I see it or drive it, I get my money back – no questions asked). Only time will tell if this car has any legs. Pre-orders are not a good indicator of future success.

i think its ironic that as soon as Ford sells the brand, it looks like it will finally turn itself around (and make the argument that design almost single-handedly do it). Then they can shoot themselves in the foot twice.

Jaguars are something a dad passes on to his son.. Noone in their right mind would adopt to be a jaguar personwith todays choices.

Shut up V2, it even got the Car of the Year in What Car? Or Was it Auto Car? Or Auto Express… One if not all.

Also there have been ad campaigns for it in the UK.

And no, it hasn’t been done before. They haven’t sold Jaguar just yet from what I understand, still working out manufacturing rights and bugs.

I thought Ford sold these guys, in which case, who owns Jaguar now? Anyhow, they seem to be doing a good job. They’re creating a new image for the same old same old brand…. It has this crazy IDrive looking knob that raises up out of the center console, it’s your gear selector. Turn it from side to side to select the gears. Pretty cool, don’t believe that’s been done before?

The only thing that I’m a little anxious about, and I’m really hoping Jaguar will not do, is jacking the price and production up. The best thing possible they can do is keep production mid-level, just underneath consumer demand, and the last thing they need is mark-ups. Let’s not have another situation like the Ford Thunderbird…

SwerveEarly- If there’s so many loyal consumers, do tell, where have they been for the past 5 years? I know what your saying about not buying a car w/o test driving it, I agree that’s ridiculous… but some people have the cash to burn, and it’s a stunning car.

I was at Chicago too and i touched the XF and this preppy dude looked at me funny. and then i got in the XKR and he circled me as i sat in the car. im black but im not gonna drive off with your precious XKR when we are 3 floors above the street. Damn racial profiling….. lol

The car looks good, but I could not order any car w/o test driving it first? I guess some people are so blindly loyal they dont car about details like how car drives or even feels once physically sitting in it. Where is it being built?

I realy like this car. i went to the Chicage auto this past weekend and jaguar and one on desplay I wen to go look at it and when I went ot open the rear door i was told not to sit in the car?? they even had the seats marked off please do not sit on seats?? Bad P.R
