Jaguar takes 3,000 orders for XF sedan in UK

12/11/2007, 3:12 PM

By Drew Johnson

Jaguar has taken about 3,000 orders for its new XF sedan in the UK, a new report finds. Although it’s hard to tell if the XF’s success on its home turf will translate into solid worldwide sales, the newest Jag appears to at least be taking steps in the right direction.

“The fact that there is a buzz being generated around the XF is good and the translation of that into pre-orders has exceeded expectations,” Richard Parry-Jones, chief technical officer of Jaguar’s parent company, Ford, told Just-Auto. “If it sells as expected, and all the early indications say that it will, it will be profitable for Jaguar and a very important stepping stone in the road for recovery for Jaguar profitability.”

UK buyers will take delivery of their Jaguar XFs beginning in March of 2008.

Ford is expected to sell its Jaguar and Land Rover brands by the end of the year.

This is an ugly and poor representation of Jaguar. I would purchase a Cadillac CTS over this vehicle.

Don’t undermind the people of India. You know nothing of their plans, ideas and goals. They could be the owner Jaguar has always needed. Just because the Brits and Yanks failed doesn’t mean India will.

LP640 wants to be the next GMNUMBERONE, or Tripleonefive.

I actually like the Jaguar XF. I really wish the body shape was presented more dramatically, but the interior is extremely clean, looks great and looks well put together, and overall it looks very nice. I wish though they would just leave the Jaguar round headlight-looking behind them.

meanpants555- I think most people are worried India is trying to “take their revenge”, and even so their products are very low quality. Some of that’s just silly, although I have had numerous low quality Indian products, I doubt the cars production will move to India.

I would guess that India is looking to change people’s perception of them (if low quality is their rep) and Jaguar could help that. I doubt they will use Tata vinyl in upcoming Jags.

At the same time building in India would be far cheaper than England; not that I want my seats sewn together by a nine year old.

I believe that perception of India is not necessarily cheap (unless you walk into Indian owned 7/11) but definitely curry smelling (you don’t have to be in close quarters of 7/11 to know that fact)

Hey, LP640, have you taken the time of day to actually look at this car? Probably not. Clearly you haven’t been to any auto shows where this car has been. I saw one of these at the SF International Auto Show and there were a lot of people stopping to ask questions. To me, the only worthless thing about this article is your uneducated response to it.

I think LP meant that most of the Jaguar parts are come from Ford and therefore it is re-badged Ford. He is probably right about it. Jaguar is a victim of Ford and the car even looks a little like a Volvo – another company Ford raped.

The XF is a huge step in the right direction. The S-type was too ugly. The XF will be a solid base to build the company on. Now all Jaguar needs is a little money to upgrade the components and engine.

Okay, LP640. Nice of you to dip into the wonderful vocabulary of offensive language and name calling. That really shows how much smarter you are than I. Anyway, for your information, I have looked at the competition of the XF. I helped my girlfriend look at several luxary sport sedans (including BMW, Infiniti, Acura, and Mercedes) before she chose a Lexus. All very nice cars. I used to dislike imports, but by actually looking at them, I realized how nice they are. I looked at the XF at the International Auto Show, too! It too is a nice car. LP640, have you seen the car in person? You failed to answer that question of mine. Even my girlfriend was impressed by it and she owns a new Lexus! She doesn’t care for Ford either. What amazed me was the sound system in the XF! It’s quite impressive! I don’t want to start name calling, but when anyone comes on here with a “this car is crap” statement, they better have evidence to back it up. By the way, saying it’s crap because it is affiliated with Ford is not a legitimate argument in my mind. If you have seen the car in person and saw the quality flaws for yourself, then go ahead and say it sucks, but give your evidence of why. Oh, LP640, you told me to “Get your facts right.” Maybe you could give me those facts. Where are you getting them from? This car was unveiled a month ago. Where are the reviews you got your facts from?

I stand corrected. There is a review on this car. It’s at:

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=123464?tid=edmunds.il.home.photopanel..1.*

At the end it says:

“We’re not allowed to talk about anything to do with driving this prototype, but let’s just put it this way — it wasn’t just the designers who had fun here.

But don’t fret. The 2009 Jaguar XF is worth waiting for. It’s going to be big.”

It seems that the folks at Edmunds rather liked the ride they went for in the new XF. I guess I was impressed with the XF as they were.

I don’t see any facts in any of your statements. Just moronic opinions. I saw this car at the LA auto show and I compared it visually to the E-class, 5 series and gs-350. This car compared very favorably. Its weakest part is the front. They need to change the headlights and maybe decrease the size of the front grill. Everything else was gorgeous. I didn’t get to see the interior, but from the internet pictures, it should be just as good if not better than the other cars (I hate the BMW interior) I’m waiting for the test drive reviews to fully pass judgement regarding performance. By the way, those finely built german cars have been spending a lot of time at repair shops. Have you seen JD Powers and consumer reports rankings? Jaguar was above Mercedes and right behind BMW.

I think it looks very stylish both interior and exterior. Could be a huge success. I don’t care which country’s corporation owns the company, to me it will always be a English/British brand.
The S-type looked similar to previous generation Hyundai Sonata.

Yeap… here we go again with a bunch of college kids and postal workers arguing about a car they cannot presently afford without credit or loans. But anyway, I’d reserve judgment prior to test driving the actual vehicle. From the style (besides the ugly front) and the interesting gimmicks, I’m sure it’ll sell. Performance and quality most likely won’t be as good as the japs or germans but a Jag is all about emotion. That’s why even if it costs more than the rivals, people will still buy it.
