"Same goes for Aston! Their current portfolio are the most beautiful cars FORD ever produced!

Actually aston's portfolio are an evolution of the db7's design, which came from the pre-ford xj41 and xj42 concepts. look at this link: http://austin-rover.co.uk/index.htm?xj42devf.htm

Sounds cool. I'm slowly starting to think that Jag and LR may be in better hands with Tata.

RSPINJAR, your probably right, but I think Ford may just be leaving Jag alone to do what they want since they're dropping them. But if Ford is doing it, they seem to be putting too much into Jag and LR right now, when they're selling them. Anyone see the LR display at NAIAS? The LR display was too much for Ford to do if they're letting go of them, and then if this is Fords doing, why?

It was certianlly in the best interests of Jaguar to be sold by Ford to Tata, at least that's my impression so far. However, they have a lot to prove before they can even think them even being capable of putting together a true 911 challenger/beater, like say, an R8.

Despite my screenname, I'm a Porsche nuthugger.

Exactly right dthoe90! Everything Jaguar is and will be in the next 5 years is because of FORD. Just look at the portfolio coming out - XJ, XF, XK, and now this! Please, everyone forgets that there would not even be a Jaguar brand right now if Ford didnt buy them in 1989 - they were on the verge of closing their doors forever!

Same goes for Aston! Their current portfolio are the most beautiful cars FORD ever produced!

Bottom line: without Ford neither of these two brands would be on the road today.

And the XJ is the flagship LLN! Not the XF!

Jaguar took their plunge into F1 not so long ago. Anyone remember? Besides Eddie Irvine's bank account? There's a reason Porsche still isn't there. They don't need to be.

HANGGGG ON a second, Ford still does own Jag at the moment so these are FORD people doing this work. Ford could just stop all design/conceptual work at Jag and take all their people back but they haven't.
Ford DID take some of Jag's brand identity, but they did it for good reason. They made the company settle down and come up w/ some new designs, new customer bases, etc. and now is the time when they can go back to their history and to the gorgeous, dripping w/ sweat Jags they used to make. It's a shame Ford has put all this work into the company just to sell it.

I'm glad Ford gave them the boot. They were in trouble, and Jag, under their control, really wasn't that profitable. I hope they produce something interesting now. Although, I wish Ford kept their hands on it a little bit, as to reclaim it when they were bringing in some revenue. Now just to dump Land Rover, Mercury (unless they plan on vamping up their work there) and maybe even Lincoln. They would be in far better shape standing alone without all the other "companies" (this doesn't include Land Rover) that are basically the same cars with different badges.

Good thing that Jaguar is trying to get back to its root. The XKE, E-type were fantastic cars, except that they required a lot of maintenance, though people still liked them. They were iconic.

Nowadays it is about reliability. Jaguar is not good in this regard, but same can be said for Mercedes. I don't think Jaguar is aimed at the 80+ crowd, unless you mean those who can actually afford one (the $80,000+ crowd) and the necessary maintenance.

The problem with Jaguar is Ford trying to cheapen the brand with Ford's product (X-type!). It is bad enough that these Ford's Jags aren't reliable, but Ford stripped the brand of its identity. I don't discount that Ford has invested a lot in Jaguar too, but it's about time to let someone else take charge and help the brand. Tata is looking more like a good idea now.

Tata isn't an Indian national company; they're an international conglomerate and they're not gonna turn the Jag line into a bunch of Nano derivatives. I really think that with their leadership they're gonna make some interesting goods and move the marque forward. They'll give it much more attention than Ford ever did.

Jaguar has made some very Ironic automobiles, the favorite being the XKE (wonderful automobile), but it lost it way, and more so its cultural identity. To reestablish itself will take not only a worthy automobile (and most welcome the competition) but a complete infrastructure of sales, service, and real estate to make it happen; add to that a needed track record of residual value, and desirability. Tough road, but they have thrown down the gauntlet, and I wish them luck...they'll need it as the time needed to make it all happen isn't free or readily available.

That sounds interesting, I don't know how Jaguar lost its way with performance. Especially when they came out with the XJ220. That was an impressive piece! I think that Jaguar should come out with something to compete with the 911, although that's not easy competition. I agree with jayjco08 what do they have to lose at this point?

This sounds like it could be very interesting. I've never sat or seen an XK aside from autoshow's, so I can't say much about it, but from what I've seen it looks like a very nice car. It would be great to see Jaguar make a sports car, maybe not a competitor to the 911, but a small to mid-size sports car, with tight suspension and a zippy motor. Larger than the Pontiac Solstice, but not as large as the current XK.

Jaguar could do it, and they have nothing to lose besides their name and jobs.
