Jaguar adding XF Supercharged model for 2010

06/29/2009, 10:43 AM

By Drew Johnson

Jaguar has announced it will expand its U.S. XF range to four models later this year, adding the XF Supercharged to the lineup for the 2010 model year. The XF Supercharged will be powered by a supercharged 5.0L V8, splitting the difference between the naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 model and the top-level XFR. The base XF model comes packing a 4.2L V8.

Based on the XFR’s supercharged mill, the 5.0L will crank out 470 horsepower and 424 lb-ft of torque under the hood of the XF Supercharged. Although that’s 40 horses down from the XFR, the XF Supercharged will be a formidable performance sedan, capable of accelerating from 0-60 in just 4.9 seconds.

To keep that power in check, the XF Supercharged will feature Jaguar’s Adaptive Dynamics variable suspension and Active Differential Control electronic rear dif.

Other XF Supercharged features will include upgraded brakes, unique 20-inch wheels, a twin-needle stitched interior, Rich Oak interior accents and a Bowers & Wilkins sound system. The XF Supercharged is slated to hit Jaguar dealers this October with a starting price of about $68,000.

The question du jour: does it come with Nano as a city alternative?

Keep chasing Cadillac boys. Maybe you’ll get lucky and match someone closer to your abilites. Maybe BMW or Lexus. It’ll be decades before you’ll ever match General Motors engineering prowess.

Please no one respond to the above post – he’s only on here to get a reaction out of people on here. There is no other motivation, I can assure you he doesn’t believe what her says. If you respond to it you yourself are falling for it. Let us clean these message boards from whatever obvious response for this message is and carry on with this car post related talk, or talk about something else that’s random and funny.

J.D Power Vehicle Dependability Study… Who’s at No1…

If GM’s “engineering prowess” could build a car even half as well built as any modern Jag perhaps GM wouldn’t be in the sad state it is now.

Thank you. MORON!!

Buick and Cadillac. The XK is a relibillity and quality joke. Typical Jaguar garbage. They don’t even have a teaspoon worth of the respect they once had and they still produce nothing to compete with leaders like Cadillac. The CTS-V destroys this car, the G8 demolishes it, the STS-V will beat it and any V8 midsize sedan in GM’s stable will give it a good run for the money. This will compete with bottom feeders like BMW and Acura and Lexus while outdoing both of them in problems and time in the shop. Only Audi or Mercedes will have as many problems as this.

whats the point? why this AND the xfr? i think they should have just kept the old supercharged 4.2L to fill the hole between the 4.2 and the supercharged 5.0, which would have eliminated the need for a fourth model

bieltp, why did you buy an Audi, are you a glutton for punishment? You must have a second car for when it goes into the shop huh? I want a Buick Enclave myself, I’d be embarrassed to be seen in a German car. Even moreso than a Faguar like 1115 drives.

Buy American. Buy GM

Johnny: absolutely. You take Nano to all you can eat Indian buffet and propel it with your own gases from it. It becomes supercharged hybrid (you need some gasoline to get to the buffet).

This car is already for sale and they have had an XF supercharged since the cars debut 2 years ago. I don’t think it’s news unless I am missing something. Am I missing something? This car already exists…
The XF comes in 3, soon to be 4, levels. Base, Premium, Supercharged, and now R.
I am really confused by this article.

Does anyone else have a basic knowledge of cars at all on here? How has no one caught this?

So this is just an engine upgrade from the 4.2L Supercharged to a 5.0L Supercharged? That isn’t “adding a fourth model” but rather modifying an existing model. LLN is terrible at writing articles.

JAGUAR ALREADY OFFERS AND HAS OFFERED THE XF IN SUPERCHARGED FORM!!!

Tornado, you’re sort of right in that they offered a 2009 “supercharged” baged model.
When Jaguar shifted to the 2010 line-up, they initially did not have a ‘Supercharged’ badged model.

Initial 2009 USA line-up: XF 4.2, Premium XF 4.2, XF 4.2 S/C
Initial 2010 USA line-up: XF 4.2, XF Premium 5.0, XFR 5.0 S/C

So, technically, they are now adding a XF ‘Supercharged’ model for 2010.

Wow, wow. “Need more oil for GM” needs to refresh his brain, (if he has one). :p

Acura and BMW are certainly not “bottom feeders.” In the top ten for J.D powers Initial Quality study, 70% of the automakers were imports. Go suck it!

@mentir – Was not aware that they were “dropping” the supercharged model for 2010. That makes sense. So instead of “adding” a s/c model they are not getting rid of the pre-existing model. Increasing its size from 4.2L to 5.0L.

Even though this is news to some, to me, not knowing they were thinking of getting rid of the regular, non R, s/c model, this is not news at all. Just a modification.

@ Tornado – Agreed. The news here is moreso that the “supercharged” gets a 50hp bump in power and remains the XF’s non-R flagship for the 2010 model year.

@ mentir
Even then, there was already a supercharged version. I think they are trying to introduce a new model to discontinue maybe the base model. All people are going to do is purchase this model and upgrade it to have more power, henceforth making the range topping XR irrelevant.
