2009 Jaguar XJ Portfolio special edition unveiled

02/19/2008, 9:56 AM

By jonaziz

Jaguar today revealed its 2009 Jaguar XJ Portfolio — a special edition version of its range-topping XJ luxury sedan. The car is a successor to the XJ Super V8 Portfolio, which was first offered in 2005.

Available in the U.S. and Europe, it offers the same 400 horsepower 4.2-liter supercharged V8 as the performance-oriented XJR. But instead of focusing on sportiness, the XJ Portfolio’s aim is to offer increased luxury and exclusivity.

All XJ Portfolio models come with Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), and a self-leveling air suspension for improved handling and comfort.

Exterior colors are limited to Celestial Black or Astral Gold paint, 20-inch Selena alloy wheels with a red Jaguar ‘Heritage’ badge, milled aluminum side power vents, chrome mirror caps and Portfolio trunk lid signature badge.

Inside, the XJ Portfolio is available in one of two color schemes — Navy with Champagne piping and Navy carpets or Ivory with Navy piping and Navy carpets.

Other Portfolio interior highlights include: a cabin trimmed in Rich Oak veneer with Portfolio motif on passenger airbag lid; Navy leather and alloy gearshift with alloy surround; luxury carpet mats with contrast leather edges and Jaguar ‘Leaper’ logo; embossed Jaguar ‘Leaper’ logo on headrests; stitched leather door casings; Alston luxury headliner; unique front treadplates with Portfolio script.

The “Premium” specification includes: individually heated and cooled front seats; 7-inch Touch-screen, Jaguar premium sound system and dual-zone climate control systems; Bluetooth connectivity for up to five separate telephones; JaguarVoice, Adaptive Cruise Control and rear multimedia system with DVD player and twin display screens.

What people forget about the XJ is that under the conservative skin, is a stunning car. I love this Jaguar; best in class and the most tactile to drive.

I think I’ll save this article so that when I’m 90 years old and need something to drive I might consider this. Sheesh.

BTW, what is that pathetic big stupid chrome vent behind the front wheel? If it’s functional at all, then it’s still about 10 times larger than it needs to be. People rag on that crappy vent on the new Focus, but Jag has taken that crappiness to new lows with this one.

This car four bike racks up top, headed to the mountains? It would be awesome.

The Maserati Quattroporte is way cooler than this venerable old looking Jag.

Too bad Noah, they’ll be around for a bit… sadly you probably won’t die before them though, so stick around and enjoy their demise when it happens… if your one brain cell doesn’t die of lonliness first.
