Jaguar's XJ Super V8 is a more powerful and opulent version of the automaker's flagship luxury sedan. While the regular XJ delivers 300 horsepower, the Super V8 model offers an additional 100 horsepower.
But a supercharged engine producing 400 horsepower at 6,100 rpm and 413 pound-feet of torque at 3,500 rpm is just the beginning. The Super V8 model comes equipped with the same luxury amenities of the Vanden Plas model and many of the performance features of the XJR.
A 320-watt Alpine sound system is standard equipment, while a rear-seat multimedia entertainment system comprised of two 6.5-inch monitors in the back of the front seat headrests and a dedicated DVD player keeps passengers occupied. The rear bench seat features six-way power adjustability. The front seats obviously trump these with 16-way adjustability and 3-zone climate control. The pedals and steering column are likewise adjustable for fit, and feature memory settings. A moonroof is standard fare as well.
The XJ Super V8 also comes equipped with R Performance disc brakes, 20-in. Callisto wheels (with 19-inch painted Sabre wheels as a no-cost option), DVD-based Navigation system, a tire pressure monitor, radar-based Adaptive Cruise Control, stability control, power-folding side mirrors, a choice of Burl Walnut or Elm interior trim, lambswool rugs, Bluetooth connectivity, and an iPod hookup.
A new JaguarVoice feature allows the driver to access a number of car functions by issuing voice commands.
The car is steered using a speed-sensitive rack and pinion setup. The standard transmission is a six-speed ZF automatic, and rear-wheel-drive is the only drive configuration. The XJ Super V8 uses the same lightweight aluminum body structure as the XJ, but its additional features add nearly 300 pounds -- bringing total curb weight to 4,000 lbs. A self-leveling and adaptive air suspension underpins the big cat.
