2008 Jaguar XJ8L

XJ8 shoppers looking for a little more interior space can turn to the XJ8 L, which provides an additional 5 inches of wheelbase and nearly the same increase in length for extra cabin space for occupants. The extra length amazingly only results in a 44lb weight increase, meaning the EPA fuel economy ratings of 16mpg city and 25mpg highway remain the same as the shorter XJ8.

Priced slightly above the XJ8, the extended model uses the same 4.2 liter V8 producing 300 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 310 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm. As with the regular XJ8, the "L" variant comes equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. The top speed has been electronically limited to 121mph, with 0-60mph acceleration taking well under 7 seconds.

The XJ8L also features the same improvements for the 2008 model year as the XJ8. New front and rear fascias give the car a more aggressive look, while power vents behind each front wheel draw parallels to the popular XK sports car.

The XJ8L's 124.4-inch wheelbase is the longest available in its class, the British automaker says. It also has more rear headroom than any vehicle in its class.

Features include ventilated front seats with heating and cooling, adaptive air suspension, 19-inch wheels, premium softgrain leather, Acoustic Laminated Glass, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a 120-watt, 8-speaker sound system with Sirius satellite radio capability.

An optional 320-watt Alpine premium system is available, as is a multimedia package and a heated steering wheel. A choice of HD Radio or Satellite Radio can only be ordered in conjunction with a DVD-based navigation system. Front Park Control is a stand-alone option, while the wood and leather steering wheel and gearshift knob can be swapped for all-leather pieces at no charge. Jaguar offers a different style of wheels at no charge, and a second one though it charges for that set. Both sets share the same 19-inch diameter as the standard wheel and tire package.
