Top Gear has published a very positive review of the 2007 Jaguar XK coupe. “It’s unquestionably better than the 6-Series and compellingly different to a 911,” the British magazine declares. “It’s sonorous, it’s sexy (it really, really is), it suggests of its owner a certain discretion a BMW 6-Series could never. It’s indulgent, properly luxurious in a way only a British car can be.” It has plenty of power, though not as much as some of its German competitors. “So this XK, a sublime modern GT doesn’t thrill, but the XKR, with another 120bhp will, I’m certain. In the meantime, celebrate this car. I guarantee when you see one on the road, you’ll have no reservations about it the way it looks. And hell, I haven’t driven it far, but sometimes you know a car is right. I’m certain about this one.”

Jeremy Clarkson, although I love him to death, has a very strong and not-so-hidden bias against BMW.
I think it goes back to the German v. England thing, and how BMW bought England’s Rover group then dumped it for dead. He’s kinda bitter about that.

All you have to do is watch Top Gear a couple of times to realize that the Herman Munster lookin’ Cro-magnon uses Jaguar as the solution to all your car needs. Poor guy, must suck that your country mis-managed its automotive industry out of existance. Clarkson is Old, ugly, outdated and obsolete….he’s entertaining to watch, but often reaches absurd conclusions in defense of King and Country.

Uh, huh. And Autospies claims that Lexus “gets it” by declaring how the IS will whiz by the 3-Series.

The British in general, and Top Gear in particular would rate a pile of dog excrement higher than any other product tested as long as it was British. The tend to gush on about any vehicle made in the Kingdom, so it comes as no surprise the Jag out-rated the Bimmer

Ofcourse Jeremy Clarckson has never written an unbiased and objective review, most of the time using absurd paradoxes and other nonsense…
But I love it, go Jeremy

when you buy into Jag, its not really about performance, its a fashion statement. No one buys an XK coupe, but rather the convertible for that reason, it’ll stand out in the sea of cold-hearted performance oriented BMWs and Mercedes, and the driver WANTS to be seen. The XK actually bears many proportions to the Aston Martins as they’re both designed by Iam McCullum, who coincedentally has his own company, Fisker, which basically takes in Mercedes and Beemers and makes them look more like Astons.

Henrik Fisker designed the DB9 while Ian Callum designed the new XK. The new aluminum Jaguar XK has to comply with new European pedestrian safety regulations so its front bumper is more blunt.
The new Jaguar XK is the only new car besides the new Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano that weighs less than its predecessor. The new XK would make a great race car.

Of course he’s absurdly biased. That’s what makes it funny. Take it with a grain of salt and maybe you guys will enjoy it.

Top Gear magazine is NOT only written by Jeremy Clarkson. From what I remeber he does articles every now and then and a column in every issue, but there’s quite a lot more people working for it.

You guys are crazy. The Jaguar XK is a an absolutely gorgeous car. The BMW 6 series is hideous. It’s not always all in the numbers. Yes the bimmer may be faster and cheaper but give me a break, it is but-freakin ugly. Besides, I bet most of the posts here are from 13 year old pimple heads who don’t know what a proper GT is. Don’t just stick with a brand because of it’s history. Take a look where it is going. The BMW are soon going to be history if they don’t change the design. I’m off to order my XKR!!!!!
