I think what's important is that Jaguar is currently making a reliable and quality product. As far as a GT goes, an XKR coupe is at the top of my list.

I actually commend Jag for keeping the wieght down compared to the competition and pushing efficiency. They certainly had their bad years, but it seems they've turned the corner beating Lexus and Infiniti now in JD Powers stuff. I'd rather have a Brit than a Jap up there. ;)

The XKR is one of my favorite cars, despite having an automatic. The update looks pretty good, and I love the new interior.

It's OK Andrew. You'll re-read your posts in the morning and then spend the rest of the weekend thinking this can't disappear off the 20 most current fast enough. Been there, done that. But hey, look at the bright side, it's less painful than chewing your own arm off.

The X-Type... a good Ford. No, a great Ford. A great car, really. A most unimpressive Jaguar, however. Badged as a Ford Contour and sold in the Land of the Free, we'd never have seen the Ford Fusion. But, alas...

Absolutely, Jaguar has made cars that were delicate to maintain and that required a patient, knowledgeable, expensive mechanic to be on speed dial. But that doesn't necessarily make them bad cars. When, on the rare chance that they are running, you have the opportunity to explore them in ways they were designed to be exercise, you realize that they are brilliant, smashing-to-drive automobiles. A genuinely car needn't be a reliable car, per the definition I've offered above. To wit: Few would argue that a Ferrari is not a good car... but fewer yet would be able to find a Ferrari that has not required major work in the first 5,000 miles.

Would I choose to own, say, an early-'80s XJS V12? You have to be kidding me. Not on this paycheck! But would I pass up the opportunity to flog a well-sorted one? No way. They're dynamically impressive cars that deliver in the Jaguar tradition.

And I've corrected the British Leyland mistake and I've phired the pruufing teem.

Andrew writes, "Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think Jaguar has ever made a genuinely bad car." Jag has never DESIGNED a genuinely bad car, perhaps, but it has MADE oodles of them. Production quality is integral to a car's goodness or badness -- I've doodled some really good cars, but that doesn't make me a quality carmaker. Jag has made some of the poorest-quality, least-well-executed vehicles in the western world, and that makes them genuinely bad cars, no matter how seductive the clay models were.

And the X-Type was as much a Jag as the Cadillac Cimarron was a Cadillac: it was a gussied-up, rebadged Mondeo. Rather than argue with you that it was a bad Jag, I will say it wasn't a Jag at all and doesn't even belong in the pantheon. It was a Ford with a cat glued to the hood.

And it's British LEYLAND. British Leland is the murderer in the BBC remake of "Twin Peaks."

Still not crazy about that goldfish-looking front end. Should have made it more Aston looking IMHO. Still a nice looking car.
