The Big 3 got hurt be $4 gas. Guess who didn't?
Mitsubishi is just irrelevant.

The Fit might be honda's best car.
mayer_ray_nagin: July 2007 was terrible.

I believe Honda set records selling in May and June, especially the Civic, dealers couldn’t keep up the demands.

"HemiRoadRunner has been banned from posting comments."
Sure, the guy says a lof of idiotic and offensive stuff, but let him be, unless it gets into libel.

f*********e: "you think american people should buy american just because of sheer patroitism, even where the product is inferior." I think returning to the days when people did that would be terrible.

I think eveyone that makes a Fit-sized car should bring it Stateside.

johnnycanuck: Rather than call Toyota " the number one producer of vehicles," maybe you should say they make more vehicles.

Why is HemiRoadRunner banned, yet "fuk-u-asshole" is still using that name? I didn't always agree with what he said, in fact, many times it was downright offensive and evil, but he still should be free to express himself.

He'll just come back with a new name.

Shish kabob (and everyone else), wait until the cars start driving themselves. All passion will be lost, and the one that has the fastest internet connection will be the one that sells the most. That will be a sad time.

Not likely? Try not ever. The car business like almost any business is about one thing and one thing only: money. If passionless cars are selling through the roof then screw the opinions of the few, how about making billions instead? As a gearhead I can't say I like a lot of these cars but as a businessman I understand the need to make money in whatever ways are possible even if that does include going against popular opinion; but then again if they are selling like crazy then popular opinion must be siding with these econoboxes.

It would be very hard to walk into a Toyota board meeting and say you need to get your act together when they're the number one producer of vehicles on the planet. I'm not saying you're wrong about the lack of passion, but why should they bother? To keep you happy? Not likely.

^^^^^^ I agree with you in a way. Currently I hate Toyota for having no passion. Mazda and Nissan currently are what Toyota should be looking to as a good example on how to achieve interesting cars and keep japanese car brand values.

Toyota should get its act together. NOW

You people don't f*cking get it. The Japs aren't going to make RWD cars when all you blind bastards are buying up the fuel efficient pieces of junk like the Fit. They'll just say, "hey, the Fit is selling well, lets not make a new NSX or something cool...lets continue making the same old, boring, passionless bullsh*t." Demand decides market. If the demand is for the Prius or Civic they aren't going to make anything better. At least American automakers (along with a few others around the world) are trying to get some decent cars out on the market. They at least have some passion left in this soon-to-be passionless industry.

Not sure which is more shocking; that Mazda only produced 126,025 cars, (I see them everywhere, and I have one) or that Mitsubishi was able to somehow find 113,538 buyers.

PetrolHeadPete, yes, you have to pay for performance, but there are two things.

Weight-to-power ratio and ability to drive a car properly.

My Mazda3 has only 106 HP, yet I have no problems with driving down the German unrestricted highway at 150 km/h, the engine doesn't suffer and mileage is OK; when it comes to curvy roads, I can give more powerful cars run for their money, thanks to the chassis and driving while still being on a safe side of stability control. Not that I have to, it's just it's annoying when somebody who overtook me on a straight road, brakes hard everytime they see a corner.

On the other hand, why would you need a 200+ hp car? To out-accelerate few cars at the lights? For an occassional track day? For driving in a traffic jam?

I'm happy for the Japanese automakers - they deserve it, particularly Honda. Now if they could only start making more RWD cars....

too bad hemiroadrunner - you talked trash and you were very deluded.
you think american people should buy american just because of sheer patroitism even where the product is inferior.
Brits used too espress the same patroitism 20years ago buying british cars that were equally inferior to the rest of the market. The soon came to their senses hence the collapse of the british auto industry. History can and will easily repeat itself.

As for the article and mitsu being the dropper as usual, I dont understand why the dont bring the Colt minicar (which is very similar to jazz/fit) to the usa. Especially when you consider the success of the current Fit.

Overall all a well deserved success

Well... I don't think anyone is suprised to hear that the Japanese are making a killing off of the current state of the automotive market. I just hope for their sakes that they put these extra profits into making cars with personality. Toyota desperately needs a sports car, and the S2000 is getting long in the tooth. I think Hyundai has really hit the nail on the head with the Genesis coupe... the tuners will eat it up. I hope it inspires some competition from Honda and Toyota.

"All three of Japan’s top automakers - Toyota, Honda and Nissan - broke records for month of July production thanks to demand for fuel-efficient cars."

Mitsubishi hasn't made a good car ¢ the VR-4.

The Mazda2 is selling, so whereds ythe 4d version 4 the USA?

Fuel efficient vehicles R boring, but most peipl,e don't mind. I also say "Screw these sub 100hp cars. "

Non-Japanese automahes usuallu have better quality, but da worst japanese car trhese dau7s uis still acceptable 2 sum. The uel effeciency bas becom da #1 criterion.

I believe Honda set records selling in May and June, especially the Civic, dealers couldn't keep up the demands.

And lol, HRR is a moron.

Was there some reason last year's July numbers were maybe low? Multiplying these outputs by 12 does not come to any abnormally high annual production numbers except maybe for Mazda, so it stands to reason that July 2007 was low for some reason.

HemiRoadRunner, despite repeated warnings, you continue to post inappropriate content that does nothing to move conversation forward. This serves as your last warning before you will be banned from posting comments.

You have to pay for performance. Fuel efficient vehicles are boring. Screw these sub 100hp cars. I'd rather pay 2x or 3x as much in fuel costs and drive something I know hypothetically I could outrun the cops in.
