As a Ford nutter and a lover of the Jaguar brand, I am STILL in the mind that JCB could do well with this brand. JCB are huge players in the UK and their industrial machines are everywhere! They could make Jag British again! It would make me shed a happy tear.

If Ford EVER sell Jag THIS is the country to sell it back to!

Ford should sell Jag. Then when a new model is sold maybe there can be a remake of the old TV show "The Equalizer":

Jaguar needs to move up-market again. Nothing lower the S-Type is acceptable. The X-Type is a Ford Mondeo and needs to go. The XJ needs to be redesigned into something akin to its former glory and should have a model that competes directly with the Quattroporte. They should come out with a real sports car, not the overweight and anti-sports XK. Something similar to the Jaguar F-Type, price it against the Porsche Cayman and make it fast, really fast.

I am not worries about the design. Ian Callum and team have shown they can get it right when given the chance. It is less obvious to me how Jag in a smaller setting could catch up with Porsche, Audi and BM on mechanics like new engines, clever all wheel drive systems etc. unless those JBC guys have huge funds at their disposal. Also, in order to present an attractive business case Jag will need to come up with a compelling strategy for the US as well....

Maybe Jaguar should hire outside design studios so that they will not be forced to use their so called"heritage" to mess up their present line up. Just like what Pininfarina did to the stunning Maserati Quattroporte. They really need a fresh start to jumpstart sales.

Moss,
That was exactly what I was thinking. Jags still have "clout" over in europe. It is seen as a very refined and elegant brand. Diesels are also, as many know, enormously popular in europe. This could be a perfect buyout.

Reskin the excellent XJ platform (I do mean to say excellent). Give it a powerful turbo-diesel that is quiet, powerfu, and gets great economy. BOOM. You've got a winner.

Reskin the S type, give it efficient diesles for the masses. Then, create a high performance version using aluminum components for the suspension, CRP for the hood and trunk, lightweight seats, and a twin turbo I6 diesel engine ala BMW 535. Figure out a way to push 400bhp and 600 lb/ft (the latter is easily attainable) and you've got a mean machine that would probably sell out.

Land Rover is Ford's most profitable division. They were also the only SUVs to see any kind of sales growth over the last year or so.
