J.D. Power reports customer satisfaction with dealers

07/20/2006, 4:09 PM

By admin

J.D. Power today released the results of its 26th annual 2006 Customer Service Index Study, which assesses how satisfied car owners are with the service they receive at their dealership. An overall numerical score is determined based on six measures: service initiation, service advisor, in-dealership experience, service delivery, service quality and user-friendly service. Lexus ranks highest with an overall CSI score of 912 points on a
1,000-point scale, achieving particularly high ratings from repair
customers in the areas of service initiation and service quality. Following
Lexus in the rankings are Buick (911) and Cadillac (909). Full list after the jump…

Interesting….considering 1000 is best and I guess 0 to be worst, cars all around are built better now. Buick and Caddy hot on the heels of Lexus….interesting Toyota is below all American brands (except Jeep)…..and this is a JD Power report where people used to think they catered to the Japanese….

Also, I know the dealership where I live when I owned my Toyota Celica was awful….excellent car, horrible service….Always dirtied up the car with grease, never would clean it and generally rude….Toyota needs to learn a lil from their other outlet, Lexus.

The key is to just get a new car whenever the one you have needs service. That way you don’t ever have to deal with service departments. Man…I should get paid for these ideas.

Monkey Man:

I know a woman who took her 4 runner in to the dealership because the check engine light came on, she got worried that her vehicle was about to start falling apart and started looking at other vehicles.

She had the ppwk signed on a new, loaded highlander, trading in the 4 runner before getting word from the shop.

the problem with the Runner? The gas cap hadn’t been closed tight enough.

I’m glad to see MINI made the top 10 cut. My first service experiences a few years ago when MINI was lumped into BMW service were terrible, we were treated like third class dirt compared to the BMW owners. Since then, MINI has made a huge effort to have dedicated facilites and first class service advisers, and techs who care about the cars. It’s been an amazing improvement, and they deserve the recognition for it IMO. Way to go MINI-!!

My MINI experience has been just the opposite. My first MINI had many problems, but the dealer’s service was always excellent, including free loaners, usually BMWs. Once I even had a 740i for the weekend! My second MINI has been pretty trouble free, but again, when needed, the dealer has been wonderful. Needless to say, if I want to move up to a larger car, my first choice will be a BMW. I have owned close to 60 cars in the 50 years I have been driving, so I have a bit of experience with dealers, and the BMW /MINI dealer in our town is the best I have seen.

HAHAHAHA! That’s good stuff. You can’t make **** like that up. If the sales person was any good, he/she would’ve pushed her to sign before she got the 4Runner back. But still, stupid people make me laugh.

well, if you’re right then its nice to see a company with a different bias… the constant ‘japanese cars are better in every way’ ratings get annoying…

The problem w/ Toyota (and Honda actually) is that their service dept is always rediculously busy (so many people have their products). No, I am not necessarily saying all those cars are broke down bc some are their for oil changes or what have you … but the big complaint for me was the wait/line/congestion etc etc

This survey has nothing to do with the quality of the cars. This is only a rating of the dealership itself when someone comes in for service.

I am not surprised to find VW way near the bottom. I have yet to find a good VW dealership.
