The SRT8 is the potent high-performance version of Jeep's Grand Cherokee, best suited for on-road driving rather than unpredictable off-road conditions.
But it still features Jeep's tested Trail Rated designation.
In addition to this SUV's already good looks, which include the auto maker's trademark seven-slot grille, the SRT8 model adds a sporty flavor with big 20-inch polished aluminum wheels and dual chrome exhaust tips centered in the rear bumper.
Motivating the SRT8 is a high-output Hemi V8 engine, displacing 6.1 liters and pumping out 420 horsepower and an equal 420 pound-feet of torque.
Power is sent through a five-speed AutoStick automatic transmission to all four wheels via Jeep's Quadra-Trac Active on Demand system. The transmission provides an exceptionally smooth ride and shifting while reducing fuel consumption. The AutoStick function allows it to be shifted by the driver when the mood strikes.
Acceleration from zero to 60 miles per hour happens in under five seconds. The top speed is around 150 mph.
Due to all the high-performance hardware, the SRT8 is not the most efficient on fuel. It consumes 11 miles per gallon in the city and 14 on the highway.
Electronic Stability Program is standard and beefy Brembo brakes provide ample stopping power.
The loaded Grand Cherokee SRT8 also features a power eight-way driver's seat, power four-way front-passenger seat, leather seats with suede inserts, six-speaker Boston Acoustics audio system, satellite radio, security system, cruise control and fog lamps.
