Having been a car snob (read Audi) for at least 8 years-6 years ago I broke down and (against the judgement of my friends) purchased a used 2000 JGC Laredo to get to my job in the mountains. Since then- I got rid of the Audi and have never looked back! I have been waiting for Jeep to get it together and launch something worth the Jeep name- and now it looks as though they mave have answered with the 2011. PS...I currently have 203k miles and it is running strong! Just hope it holds out until the new one is launched! And I agree with AMGoff- if there is any line to pulled out of the rubble that Chrysler has created - it will be Jeep!

Hmmm... a few old names, a lot of new names, yet the same overall level of ignorance. Yep... This must be LLN.

This new Grand Cherokee appears to be a great replacement for the current model. As far as the interior goes... Anyone who has anything even remotely negative to say about it is either delusional, needs to have their eyes checked, or are blatantly looking for and subsequently pulling things right out of their rear-ends. Chrysler has obviously learned their lesson with regard to interiors...

In response to such "learned" individuals as nickkop... It's painfully clear we have yet another LLN commentator who loves to open their trap before doing even one iota of research on any given subject. Instead of just comfortable spewing your misconceived drivel... You might want to take your head out of your rear-end and actually do a little bit of reading up on the Phoenix-family of six-cylinder engines. It's certainly not as if there hasn't been more than enough written on the project over the last couple of years... So it must just be that you can't be bothered to do so for whatever reason. Do yourself a favor and check it out... Then you might actually come across as something other than an ignorant, run of the mill fanboy for whatever hogwash you subscribe to.

With that said... As far as anyone else with their comments about this being "too late" because Chrysler won't survive long enough for this new GC to come out - it's definitely time for a big reality check...

Even if Chrysler does not survive (and that's still a BIG "if")... Under absolutely zero circumstances would that equate to Jeep somehow going under with it. Were Chrysler to go under, if nothing else... Jeep would be the top brand - if not the only brand to be salvaged from the company. There are more than enough potential companies that would be nothing less than thrilled at the prospect of acquiring Jeep - plain and simple.

Jeep is the most recognizable auto brand in the world, the most capable vehicle in the world. Consumer Reports is biased. I have owned 4 Jeeps in 10 years and never had (1) electrical problem. They have had MDS in their Hemi models since 2004. Thanks to Jim Press, they are finally attacking short comings. The next thing that they need to do is attack their powertains and get their transmissions up to speed with the rest of the world.

The Jeep GC is just the beginning. You will see a new 300C and a new Charger. The new Charger is a beast and looks fast sitting still. Both have considerably improved interiors. You will also see a (B Segment Car) smaller than a Caliber, very efficient. Avenger and Sebring will not see another refresh and will be replaced with a new and improved mid-sized sedan. Nitro goes bye-bye and the Compass is not far behind.

There is not a lot of separation between CJD - Honda - Toyota-Chevy- Ford. It is all perception and packaging. The auto media is mostly lazy and piggyback off of other people’s articles. So when you see a good or bad review on a car just know that very few of these writers do their homework. They rely on past history and what the other guy said.

Chrysler will make it. If not. Jeep definitely will. It is in high demand and is Chrysler's bargaining chip.

Very nice. I have fond memories of my silver 1998 GC 5.9. It had a beautiful interior and a muscular exterior. It's nice to see Jeep headed that direction again, only this time with much better gas mileage and handling.

I wish I didn't have to wait a year for it. This might well replace my wife's 2005 GC Limited, but I'm going to hold out and see what the CTS Sport Wagon and Saab 9-5 SportCombi turn out to be like.

Best JGC yet!! I like how the exterior is refined, yet not changed completely. The JGC's have already sold very well (even on the East Coast where there seems to be few American cars) so it makes sense not to drastically change the body style. The interior looks almost as inviting as the newly updated Range Rover, but for 1/2 the price. Nice work Chrysler, I hope you can keep the padlocks off the doors so you can sell this thing!!

BTW - anyone who says the interior is not as nice as the current Highlander, Pilot, Tribeca, etc. does NOT know what they are talking about.

Love it! However, personally, as with such vehicles as Ford F250.. where is the rugged look? I would hope factory options would be something other than the 'woody' interior trim... and why not like other foreign makes that can give you heated seats with cloth-like covering... My 02 Overland seats are the most worn looking part of my interior.. I just want to feel like i can use this new model to help with the yard work and pull the horse trailer and not be afraid to get it a little dirty! Thats' what a Jeep is for! Right?
Also hopefully the CRD WILL make its way back to the GC.. if you've driven one you will see why.. also let's hope for a 6-speed tranny.. squeeze every mpg out! As for the new V-6, maybe soon Chrysler will also toss in a turbo or something!
Go Jeep!

AMAZING! NOT ONE THING ORIGINAL. WHEELS, HEADLAMPS AND TAILLAMPS ARE FROM GENERATION ONE (E53) BMW X5. REAR PROFILE IS THE SAME AS A GMC ACADIA AND THE INTERIOR IF FROM KIA/HYUNDAI. I HOPE THEY DON'T REVAMP THE WRANGLER ANYTIME SOON.

"To be the JEEP you have to beat the JEEP."

I'm amazed at some many companies that try to meet or beat JEEP and fail. One one company can claim to be in Jeeps League and go figure it's to only other company with a real military record as well, Land Rover. That is they actually made or still make vehicles for the military. MERCEDES BENZ and BMW make great road machines but when the road ends MB comes in a lagging third.

Now JEEP is going after Land Rover for Off-road Luxury? If nothing else, Jeep will beat Land Rover in Off-Road. The GC has always been Jeep's stab at that All-terrain Luxury market. If CHRYSLER can stick it out long enough to make this work, and do it right, Not over produce because that market while strong is not bottomless, Then they have a real shot at long term survival and success.

I wouldn't mind seeing a new GC SRT in the near future. Hint: Make it a high pressure Turbo Diesel. Just saw the Newest Jay Garage and that is some sick diesel tech. 1400 hp and can make six runs on one gallon. I'm sure there is more to it than that but still, can you imagine?

It would make CHRYSLER's large cars much more desirable and scarier; 500hp, 800 lb/ft, and 40+mpg (and that's being conservative).

CHRYSLER, because you have no other choice, BUILT IT AS IT AND BUILT NOW!

I wonder if INTERNATIONAL would be interested in buying HUMMER and/or JEEP?

Now JEEP is going after Land Rover for Off-road Luxury? If nothing else, Jeep will beat Land Rover in Off-Road. The GC has always been Jeep’s stab at that All-terrain Luxury market. If CHRYSLER can stick it out long enough to make this work, and do it right, Not over produce because that market while strong is not bottomless, Then they have a real shot at long term survival and success.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a new GC SRT in the near future. Hint: Make it a high pressure Turbo Diesel. Just saw the Newest Jay Garage and that is some sick diesel tech. 1400 hp and can make six runs on one gallon. I’m sure there is more to it than that but still, can you imagine?

It would make CHRYSLER’s large cars much more desirable and scarier; 500hp, 800 lb/ft, and 40+mpg (and that’s being conservative).

CHRYSLER, because you have no other choice, BUILT IT AS IT AND BUILT NOW!

I wonder if INTERNATIONAL would be interested in buying HUMMER and/or JEEP?

Ha no, if you've ever read anything else I've said, you would know that toyotas are the epitome of all that is crap and that they encompass the same mission statement as Whirlpool and Kenmore, to provide the customer with the absolute best in home appliances.

On another note, that terracotta interior is outstanding and the smooth silver is an amazing look. I still hate the taillights, but thats about my only complaint other than its lack of offroad ability.

The only Jeep worthy of the Rubicon is the Wrangler. All their other stuff is just wannabe junk. And even then, the Wrangler has poor reliability.

A4- In response to your question about the Pentastar being the same engine as the Pheonix, it is, just a badging change, although I'd prefer if they stuck with the Pheonix name.

Nickkop- Not a fan boy, just giving inside information from people that have worked on the project and given comparisons of the Pheonix to the Toyota 3.3L and 3.5L engines. Mercedes is going to be using the Pheonix architecture in there next gen V6"s, it's just a fact not a guess. The 3.0L Diesel was standard issue on the '07 and '08 models, supplied from Mercedes, dropped only because of cost issues and emmision compliance. There's a good chance though that they will bring it back, it was the top seller in Canada.

what's amazing is that you get a fully capable off-roader with Benz technology for probably $45k loaded.

Not bad.

That air suspension is too trick. I don't see/hear of any Subaru Tribeca with this kind of off-road capability.

Hate the domestic haters!

^^^^You have never been on the Rubicon have you? The appliance you drive wont survive the 1st 1/4 mile.
Jeep is among the top 10 recognized brands in the world and is the most valuable horse in the Chrysler stable. It also has the largest and most enthusiast hard core following of any vehicle line in the world (based on aftermarket money spent per vehicle). Its not dying in my lifetime. While Jeeps may have a few more nagging problems when new (covered under warranty) then some of the applpiance brands. In the long run Jeeps are extremely durable and you can beat on them way harder then most anything else.

You are right, GM had cylinder deactivation first. Wanna guess why the feature disappeared?

BECAUSE IT SUCKED BALLS AND BROKE DOWN ALL THE TIME HAHAHA.

Great feature, just far ahead of its time.

Oh, and btw, the Grand Cherokee still sets record lows in Consumer Reports for reliability, especially in the electrical department.

Enjoy your good looking POS.

Oh, and just like Sirius, Jeep won't even be around to release it. But I suppose there is a market for people who have faith in Chrysler to get it right this time as far as build quality.

This is kind of fitting that this is coming out when it is. I graduated high school the last time a new Grand Cherokee came out, now I'm graduating college when this model comes out. Kind of like a bookend to my college career.

I guess the tight up between Chrysler and M.B. came out with two nice products:

Chrysler 300M (based on older M.B. E-class)
Jeep Grand Cherokee (based on M.B. ML class)

Wasn't that what the original intent of the tie-up. Who approved the rest of the line up that brought them where they are today? Caliber? Sebring? Are you kidding me... the only place I see them is at the Budget / Avis lot.
