Jeep to offer Mopar accessories

02/18/2008, 1:40 PM

By Drew Johnson

Chrysler’s Mopar division has long been been known as the automaker’s performance arm, but has never produced any products for Chrysler’s Jeep brand. But at the National Automobile Dealers Association meeting in San Fransisco, Chrysler announced that Mopar products will now be available on Jeep models.

According to Automotive News, buyers customize their new vehicles within 90 days of purchase, meaning the Jeep brand was missing out on a lot of potential profit.

The accessories — which are available now — include a special off-road navigation system, chrome grille, heavy-duty bumper with a winch, a carbon fiber dash cover and a 200-watt sound system. Although Mopar does not currently offer a lift kit, one is on the way.

The Jeep brand will also have access to Mopar’s Electronic Accessory System — dubbed EASy — which went online last year. The system helps dealers to work with buyers to customize their vehicles. While the system is only available for dealers now, a public site goes live on March 31st.

Sounds like they have again ignored this vehicels most obvious flaw, lack of HP and torque. While going after the easy safe money as usual.

I starting to think the ‘new’ Chrysler is really on the ball. This is long overdue. By the way, how about Nardelli giving Penske a million bucks for Ryan Newman’s Daytona win yesterday? Good to see that kind of corporate support.

Hummer brand has been doing this since the H1 in the early 90’s. Where has Jeep been? Wake up.

What? Are we talking past tense here, or about the current plan?

They did not need this system with pictured 4 door Wrangler – it sells better then condoms in whorehouse. Perhaps better vehicles will help instead of customized fog lights.
