This solves that problem for a lot of people interested in serious off-roading. And yes, they could make a V8 with the same displacement, but that requires new mounts and reconfiguring the entire engine bay. By keeping the same inline-6 layout, Mopar kept the ease of installation as a re-built 4.0 My next door neighbor has a ’93 wrangler with the 4.0, an 11″ lift, and 42″ tires…and his only complaint is that he wishes it had more power. This solves that problem for a lot of people interested in serious off-roading.

One of the best engines for offroading is the 4.0L inline 6 in a Jeep. The other good candidate for crawling through the mud is late 80's through 90's Toyota 4Runner. The stroker 4.7 may not have a lot in the way of horsepower but I bet it would put to shame a lot of small block v8's with the amount of Torque it has. I could see this motor making a nice sleeper out of a early 70's AMC Gremlin if you add some performance parts.
