I’m looking to buy a 2010 jeep rubicon. I’ve had a wrangler before and drove it until the engine literally blew up and had to break down and sell it. I’ve had other cars since then but when I saw this rubicon and after test driving it I can’t seem to think about anything else. Is there anything that should turn me away from making this eager/exciting decision on buying this rubicon?

My spanking new Deep Water Blue Unlimited Rubicon Diesel 5 speed automatic hit euopean soil on the 6th of april. I reckon its in my driveway about the 25th of april. I cant wait!

The Santa Fe 2,2CRDi will become my wifes ride, and the Jeep will be mine, mine, MINE!

I’ve test driven a four door a few times so I’m only going off that experience, but I’ve owned a ’98 Accord and an ’07 Patriot and the Wrangler was no more or less “refined” than either of those. And that’s good enough for me.

This would be a great vechicle. Except that jeeps fall apart. My wife had a 2006 liberty, windows would fall down, bad vibrations, transmission issues, would not start 3 times, and it rattled like a 30 year old car. And mind you this only had 33,000 miles on it. Three of my co workers also owned jeeps, and they all had the same issues. We traded it in on a new Sante Fe, absolutely no issues, and it gets 10 more mpg then the liberty.

the engine in this machine does not justify the cost.
and i agree; it should have a diesel engine option with good low-rev-torque; inline – 4 or -6

I had the same thought as your first post teahead. A diesel jeep sure would be great! would it still be possible to borrow the diesel from the current VW toureg? I know a version of that was used in jeeps for a bit, but is that stuff still possible to borrow?

teahead a lot of offroaders choose automatics for rock crawling…45 degree rock crawling grades + manual transmissions = fail…

I remember a day when the Wrangler weighed just a few pounds over 3,000. Now the two door is just a few pounds shy of 4,000.

My only problem with the review is, what’s historic about a plant that was built in 2005? The “historic” Jeep Parkway plant is now a vacant lot.

You are correct. Liberty CRD was sourced from VM Motori. Daimler sourced Grand Cherokee diesel.

avenger, the Grand Cherokee diesel was from Daimler. The Liberty diesel… I believe… was Italian sourced. Maybe Fiat?

Um, wasn’t the old Liberty diesel sourced from Daimler? If so, that’s the answer to your question.

I want to know what happened to the Mopar diesel swap they were preparing for the TJ Wranglers with the CRD from the old Liberty? Anyone?

I agree with leftwing on the motor, but I don’t think I’d buy a Wrangler as a daily driver, and by the time I could afford a new one just for fun, I’d have enough money to swap in the 5.7L Hemi. If I were ever in the market for a new SUV, this would be at the top of a very short list. For off-roading purposes, I’ll just keep my 91 Wrangler to trash and thrash.

i like the idea of wranglers….but the execution is lousy (and ok…my current living conditions don’t make owning one very practical)

I was always a fan of the straight 6, myself. But one thing is for certain, the Wrangler is a head turner even if you think it’s ugly. It’s one of those phenomenon that just happens with the Wrangler, and not many cars in its price range get the same attention after that many years.

Almost perfect vehicle for out here except for that dang engine/tranny combo. Every time I rent one to go off-roading, the thing gasps just trying to make it up the mountain highway nevermind trekking the off-roads. But when it does hit it’s strides, dang what a blast it can be
