Followup: More info on Jerry Seinfeld’s 1967 Fiat 500 rollover

04/07/2008, 2:30 PM

By Drew Johnson

Jerry Seinfeld, one of the country’s most beloved comedians, was involved in a crash earlier this month when the brakes on his 1967 Fiat failed. Other than that short list of details, not much else was know about the crash. But thanks to an updated report, we have a little more info on the incident.

Seinfeld, 53, was originally reported as driving his 1967 Fiat BTM through New York City when the brakes on the car suddenly stopped working. Seinfeld swerved to avoid the congested Montauk Highway, which reportedly resulted in the car flipping over and landing just short of the intersection.

However, Fiat didn’t make a BTM in 1967, which threw up the first red flag about the story. But Jean Jennings, editor of Automobile magazine has gotten to the bottom of the story and has discovered all of the facts.

Apparently, Seinfeld was driving a vintage 1967 Fiat 500 when he found himself without any stopping power. And the car didn’t so much flip over as it just “sort of fell over on its side.” This would explain why Seinfeld didn’t require any medical attention after the crash.

But whatever the case, police credited Seinfeld for his quick actions, which probably prevented a more serious accident.

Gotta give him credit for only wrecking his own car. I can’t imagine breaks failing, in NYC, and not smashing into a pedestrian or another car.

Ya and after all of this he caught a taxi back to his 200 car garage and hopped into another sports car, somehow I can’t sympathize.

Jerry Seinfeld recently purchased a 1960-something Fiat 500 Abarth race car. 2-door hardtop. Easy to roll over, shaped like an egg!

A New York Times blogger asked someone at the Classic Car Club Manhattan who saw photos of the wrecked car, and he said it looks like a Dino hardtop. The blogger guesses that BTM stands for Bertone – Turin – Maranello.

He was not in NYC when this happened. This is a mistake. He was in the Hamptons which is out east on Long Island. The Hamptons is where all of those big timers have beach houses. All he did was avoid a busy road, which the Montauk Highway is. Still props to him for not going across the Montauk Highway as cars do travel pretty fast on it and it definitely saved a bigger collision from happening.

“…in true Seinfeld fashion, the comedian made slight of the serious crash…” You mean made “LIGHT” of the crash?

Also, Seinfeld is not a caomedian. He’s a worthless ****ing loser. His standup is wretched bull****. I wouldn’t laugh at his **** if I were high.

He wasn’t born rich was he, like Trump? He worked his way up to where he is, he deserves every one of his cars, houses, boats, face lifts, whatevers. I don’t hate someone and wish they would die in a car accident just because they have a lot of money. Just my opinion..

Jerry showed a lot of skill and reaction as a driver. It takes balls to do what he did. As far as his talent: he may suck in someones opinion, but he owns house in Hamptons (the most expensive zip code in US) as well as Manhattan and somewhere in L.A. area. Also, he owns 47 Porches including 959 (just like Bill Gates).

Italiafan has it dead on! It was Jerry Seinfield who DECLINED to do the sitcom. When it was on, it was number one for a reason. It’s not something 45 comments on LLN can take away, whether you like it or not. And they tried to go on without Jerry and it was a flop, so have your Kramer kiss my butt! The spin offs were equally horrible.

Fiat 500s are way cool. You are mistaking cool with how much something costs or how fast it goes. Ferraris may be fast and expensive but cool they are not. (just go to Miami or Marbella to see the orange skinned folks looking seriously uncool in their Ferraris.

There’s nothing “cool” about a Fiat 500. It’s one of the geekiest looking cars ever created. Maybe in nerd land it’s cool.

04/08, 11:47 AM

mayer_ray_nagin

Fiat Spyders are cool. Cinquecentos are cool. The early 1990s Fiat Pandas were cool. Even Fiat Bravas are relatively cool compared to a most of their competition.

Ferraris are not cool, Maseratis are not cool, and Lambos are not cool. Fun maybe, but not cool.

Is it okay to discriminate against orange people?
