Cars from the Camelot era – that of the Kennedy family’s tumultuous rise to power in United States politics – are no strangers to the auction scene. But most are centered around John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the U.S., which makes this 1994 Saab 900 owned by his son – JFK Jr. – no ordinary used car.
Serving as JFK Jr.’s daily driver at the time of his 1999 death, the three-door 900 SE is, as the auction states, “as John F. Kennedy Jr. left it.”
The 900 will be delivered to its next owner with full documentation, including registration cards and a vehicle title identifying the noted New York socialite, publisher and lawyer as the car’s previous owner.
From the auction photos, the 900 is shown in below average condition for a car with just 30,500 miles. Some rust is visible behind one rear wheel arch and below the fuel tank door, likely indicating damage from a brush with another car or a stationary object. The AutoCheck report provided in the eBay listing shows that the 900 was involved in an accident on January 17, 1996 in New York.
The 900 also comes delivered on snow tires, which seems odd considering JFK Jr. died in July of 1999 when his plane crashed in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard.
For a low mile 1994 900 owned by Average Joe, the Kelley Blue Book suggests a retail value somewhere south of $4,000. But the eBay seller – plat580 – has set the auction’s starting price at $100,000. It looks like that might be a bit of an ambitious move, especially considering the limited number of photos. There are no bids as of this reporting.
