After failing Europe’s standard crash tests with a score of zero, the Landwind SUV has been updated by China’s JiangLing Motors. Now, the company is fitting the models with frame reinforcements, a redesigned steering column and modified fuel lines to prevent fires and hoping the damage to its brand doesn’t sideswipe its plans to sell 1,000 SUVs by July 2006. There may also be a legal challenge brewing between the Landwind’s Dutch distributor and the agency that deemed the SUV unfit for service.
