Joe Laymon resigns from Ford

03/25/2008, 6:03 PM

By Drew Johnson

Joe Laymon — Ford’s group vice president and the man responsible for releasing the names of possible replacements for Ford’s CEO Alan Mulally — has resigned from the Michigan-based automaker. Laymon will be replaced as head of human resources by Felicia Fields.

Laymon says his decision to take a similar position at Chevron Corp. –effective immediately — had nothing to do with his recent interview with Automotive News. During that interview, Laymon released the names of six internal candidates that could succeed Mulally as CEO of Ford. “I know there’s a lot of controversy about my interview,” he told Automotive news. “I stand by it.”

Mulally — who says Laymon informed Ford of his decision last Friday — was a little surprised that Laymon revealed the short list of candidates during the interview, but says there are no hard feelings. Mulally even said that Laymon is “leaving [Ford] in great shape.”

Laymon, 55, has been with Ford since 2000.

what is the upside of revealing that list other than a final nose-thumbing? he knows that he’s out the door so what is the value of even giving the interview?

very surprising/disappointing and not the type of info floating aroung that will have each of those 6 guys having to address questions about succession planning rather than cars and business. additionally, it just leads to additional distraction internally which will take employee’s minds off of listening to their current chief and getting the job done.

ATTENTION EVERYONE. As of todau 3/26/08 I will no longer be posting comments on here due to the lack of maturity, and problems of whoever is using our LLN handles and trying to impersonate me and anyone else, and therefore causing problems.

If any comments after this post are said by my handle, they will have a hyperlink to a gay porn site (Do not click on it) and are deemed offensive to anyone just know it wasn’t said by the real me. After using LLN over the past 7 months, it’s sad it’s come to this. Good luck everyone.
