General Motors announced on Thursday that Jonathan Browning will be taking over the position of vice president of global sales, service and marketing, effective June 1. Browning will be replacing John Middlebrook — a 49 year veteran of GM — who is scheduled to retire on July 1.
According to Automotive News, Browning, 48, has headed up GM’s European sales and marketing division since 2001 and is also currently chairman of GM’s Vauxhall brand.
“Jonathan Browning brings a wealth of experience in automotive sales and marketing in the European market to this position,” GM CEO Rick Wagoner said in the statement. “He played a key role in making GM the fastest-growing major manufacturer in Europe, with a well-developed multibrand strategy.”
GM’s North American vice president of field sales, service and parts operations, Brent Dewar, will replace Browning on June 1.

jjt, John Browning wasn’t much businessman. Mostly inventor. He sold his patents and that’s how he made a living.
