autonut, and not Deanster, is right about law grad salaries.

I’ve never lived in Cali, but I’ve visited the Bay area several times and I love visiting. Few things beat driving a convertible through Napa on a sunny day. I even saw a Ferrari 575, just as an added bonus (although I still HATE people who can afford Ferraris). So say what you will about their politics, but this lawsuit was the most ridiculous piece of crap from the get-go. It was a political move, and I wonder how many real Californians supported it, especially when they consider that any judgment against the car companies would have only guaranteed that Californians (and probably everyone else, for that matter) were going to pay more for their cars.

Jeff you are absolutely correct. According to CA own studies the air quality of exhaust from Honda PZEV vehicles is better then intake. California would be advised to run Honda engines in downtown LA to clean up the smog.

Actually they do. In most of top 20 firms it is 165 and Wechtell paid over 200K to someone I know. Those salaries are for top 10% of top 20 schools and Fordham( because they are local school albeit not top 20). Those coming out of Brooklyn law or Cardoza start at whatever. Out of Harvard with decent ranking they should start well. Then again, Clintons went to Yale, and although Bill was a fine scholar his wife went to search for Bill or some other Dick, so her ranking was good enough for Arkansas.

BTW Autonut – fresh-out lawyers in NYC don’t start at 160-200k a year. That’s bullshit. I know plenty of them, the most recent from Harvard law; they article at around 70k and start at 90-95k. They cap out in the 150-160 range, then have to make partner or stay there forever.

Ricardohead, x2 on the chicks comment. In the pre-Katrina days, New Orleans was a fucking hotbed of insanely hot pussy. And I’m not talking bimbo tourists in the French Quarter – I went to some parties in the suburbs there and it was just unreal.

The other place with nice looking girls is Miami. NYC, I wasn’t so impressed the last time I went, although I lay low and didn’t go out too much.

In any case, this lawsuit is ridiculous because it’s built on false pretenses to begin with. To launch a suit like this, global warming has to be verified as a true entitiy beyond a shadow of a doubt, then cars have to be accepted as the de facto cause. Too many “ifs” here.

What a range of expressions: from accusing California and Californians to be commies and blaming them for election of Governator. Arnold-the-muscle man albeit related by injection to Kennedys is not a commie by any stretch of imagination. If anything his daddy was polizei during WWII hunting Jews.

The schmack who introduced this suit is a product of political activism of the left and is on state payroll, but let face it which state has an intelligent judiciary? Those lawyers who graduate from decent law schools and join law firms make 165-200K salary first year in NYC and probably in the same neighborhood in LA and SF. The putz-in-charge after 20 years in office makes maybe 120K, does not aware of cannons of law and basically a moron on public payroll. Please look at judiciary make up of your state and let the rest know that it is not the same schmack (perhaps minus California tan).

There is nothing more wrong with California then any other state, perhaps only the fact that it is being adjourned to Mexico. But after all it WAS Mexico 160 years ago. Here is the joke: after this suit is tossed out and judge explained to the putz that you can’t assign global damages for crimes or misdemeanor that are not proven to be committed in the first place, in some other state legal eagle will repeat the same exercise.

BTW in my humble opinion it the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that is the most communist state after Cubaand slightly ahead of Venezuela.

And in other news, California has announced a new lawsuit against gun manufacturers Remington, Smith & Wesson, Savage and Winchester. The lawsuit charges all employees, owners, and affiliates of these companies with the first degree murder of every firearm victim in California since the state was added to the Union in 1850. If accepted, this would give an approximately 1,483,175 year sentence to each person indicted. The bodies of employees already deceased would be exhumed and used to make a new environmental ecosystem coral reef off of Catalina Island.

Rumor also has it that the bill proposed by radical feminists, which charges every man with a child (or any other provable heterosexual relationship) guilty of rape has found favor in the Californian legislature. More details to come…

I live in California on the coast. Sure the weather is pretty much the best anywhere in the country but I’m a HUGE automotive fan so it just overrides everything else. They’ve been trying to make a rule that would ban any extent of car modification, even aftermarket mufflers. If your car looks or sounds modified it would get impounded. I even heard a story (not sure if it’s true) about two teens in southern Cali that were caught street racing and got their cars crushed because of it… without even going through trial first! The police officers apparently were given the authority to decide for themselves whether or not to crush the cars. I understand that street racing is bad but that punishment seems a bit much.
There is also a 500 wheel hp limit for non-stock vehicles.

California the state might be a beautiful place, but California the government is the most sue happy, political grandstanding, hypocritical, ass backwards, entity in the United States (perhaps the federal gov’t is worse, but that’s another argument). The asinine laws, regulations, and rules that your elected officials come up with are at best off-center and at worse borderline insane. Lawsuits like this one only help in proving my point. I’ve never set foot in California and as a car loving individual I never will (unless I have to because of travel for work).
