You know car sales are shitty when a 0.6 percent sales increase on the part of Volvo merits it to be a headliner.

Ford is being fitted for the crown.

It has some great new products and is siphoning off GM/Chrysler buyers who won't abide their bailouts.

Comparing quality to Toyonda is only helping Ford.

Subarus are tough; I like 'em.

The Honda’s Odyssey is the second-best minivan, and the besty minivan from a company that hasn't been bailed out by American taxpayers.

Volkswagen TDI= Prius without the pretension.

Why do people keep buying the rebadged Highlander/Camry wagon?

The Dodge Challenger is the only interesting Chrysler product.

Suzuki should just abandon the NA car market.

Need more oil for GM: Quality, reliability and dependibility don't just come in GM vehicles. Nothing else comes close for the price a lot of the time, but an Accord/TL is damn near as good as an Epsilon.

sj79: "Ford isnt doing too bad for a company making low quality products that lack Japanese like resale value." Ford, because of the economy, isn't doing very well, for what it is.

mayer: "tripledingleberry?" Classic! That's of deantj quality!

Hyundai Equus U.S.-bound in 2010
06/29/2009, 3:10 PMBy Drew Johnson
Continuing its march up-scale, Hyundai will reportedly market a version of its flagship Equus sedan in the United States next summer. The all-new Equus – essentially a stretched and more luxurious version of the Genesis Sedan – hit the Korean market last March and appeared on the Hyundai stage at the 2009 New York Auto Show.

Since that April U.S. debut, Hyundai has been touring the country with 100 Equus sedans, allowing dealers and consumers to experience the company’s flagship model. Response has been extremely positive, prompting Hyundai to green-light the Equus for the U.S. market.

According to Automotive News, the Equus will hit the U.S. market in July 2010 with a price tag of less than $60,000. Although the Equus is available with a 3.8L V6 in Korea – the same found in the U.S.-spec Genesis Sedan – the U.S. version will only be equipped with a 4.6L V8.

Luxury features planned for the Equus include tilting and massaging rear seats, as well as rear-seat TVs.

Although Hyundai has seen a strong initial response to its Genesis Sedan, it remains unclear if the U.S. will embrace a Hyundai with a price tag north of $45,000. The Equus will undercut its competition by thousands of dollars but, as the failed Volkswagen Phaeton showed us, U.S. buyers aren’t always willing to fork over big cash for a non-luxury brand. Then again, with buyers maximizing every dollar these days, some Lexus and Mercedes-Benz buyers might opt for the Hyundai and pocket the $20,000 savings.

Need more oil for GM: Hyundai and shoddy quality go together like hot dogs and whipped cream.

idrinorbarsaku: I don't know that a retarded person would see why a hyundai is a better deal than a gussied-up toyota. Takes brains and the ability to think for oneself.

daiso: the company just needs to redefine the HYUNDAI brand

daiso: If I were in charge, Hyudai would not have ANY sonata.

The "IS" is a rebadged Alteeza, not a Corolla (That'll be the "hs250")

Hyundai Genesis> L---s GS

Attesa45: yOU'RE WRONG.

DrFill: I'd add the Veracruz to your Hyundai lineup.

I'd hope a better fate for Hyundai than to be the next toyota.

ToxicNut: "Americans, they would buy a dog terd if it had a L---s badge on it." Some have.

steve333: "Funny, he sounds like a troll himself, knocking GMs entire line-up simply because its GM." Astute!

"GM has a lot of excellent vehicles." The only way you can believe that is if you're paying more attention to the products than ti Internet boneheads.

KLB88: I know a "l---s" is just a toyota and a BMW is a BMW.

ricky_b: "Hyundai is not quite my cup of tea but I think that they’ve proven to be a force to be reckoned with." Objectivity rears its ugly head.

Other Man: BMW ought to be trying to buy Hyundai now.

BlackoutS: "If they give you a 10 year long warranty, there’s a reason. Cause if the cars fail before the warranty expires, its Hyundai the one that will lose millions." Another guy who's paying attention.

"If GM made such great cars they wouldn’t be bankrupt." Not necessarily true -- they can make the cars as great as they want to, but can they SELL them?

sj79 - EXACTLY. I think this is what will define how well a company does in this market. Are they going for volume and risk profitability or do they go for a solid product line and stability. I think the US market has reached a saturation point with competition to where you will most likely never see a company get above 25% share (maybe even 20%) without mergers or buyouts (which few can afford).

You will see a similar trend when we look at Toyota's share of hybrids in 2007 vs 2015. As more competitors enter the market Toyota's total share of hybrids will continue to decrease. Bet we wont see articles saying "Toyota used to have 90% of the hybrid market until it lost focus on customers and allowed that share to drop to 60% over the last 8 years". MArketshare loss is inevitable if you increase the number of players.

"sj79 – Not bragging or condeming, just bringing all of the facts into light. I agree with the point that the Big 3 US are ahead of the Big 3 Japan, but the other point is that Americans as a whole are still buying more import than they did domestic."

Its 7 vs 3- are you surprised? The Big 3 had huge share back in the days when they had no competition. Its hard for 3 to hold off 7 major players and 5 smaller ones. Thats like saying there are more PCs sold than Macs. I would think so considering how many computer companies using Windows compete with Apple. Apples share as a comupter makes is decent but its share as a platform is small. GM and Ford have great share as automakers in the US- only if you view them as American vs numerous foreign competitors does their share look less impressive.

Bankruptcy2009 - I made the point on another blog that GM's overall market share would have been even lower without Saab, Saturn, Pontiac and Hummer. Scary to see how they will fare once they're stripped down some more.

As for Ford & Volvo, I agree 100 %. GM raped Saab and tossed the aside. I think Ford really tried to partner and develop with Volvo and they might have succeeded better if Ford had not been distracted by Jag and Aston. I'm actaully disappointed that Ford feels it necessary to sell off Volvo. Given time and better guidance, I think they could make it work better. It's one merger I still believe in (at least in theory).

ricky_b you forgot Ford's Volvo. Ford did'nt sell it like GM has SAAB. Plus if you look at the fact that GM will Lose more than half a million Vehicles sold a Year from the combined: SAAB, Hummer,Pontiac, and Saturn Output that GM is selling off; then you come to realize that GM will more than likely completely lose its sales Crown shortly to Ford Motor. And if Ford wants to be lazy then Toyota will gladly take it!
But I think Ford Motor will win the Crown Shortly whether they hold it for long will remain to be seen.

RickyB:

There are 7 major foreign automakers in the US vs the Big 3. You are bragging because those 7 have 54% of the market? Thats not too intelligent. There ONLY three detroit automakers and they are larger than the 3 largest Asian automakers or 3 largests Euro automakers in terms of US sales. Period. Thats like saying Toyota has more marketshare than Mazda- of course it does with a lineup 3 times the size of Mazdas.

I consider myself pretty impartial when it comes to domestic vehicles, and I can tell you that anyone in my boat is going to choose Ford over either GM or Chrysler anytime in the near future based on the fact that they are the only company that didn't go Bankrupt. I'm sorry, but I feel like everyone but Ford has burnt their loyal customers due to lack of foresight.

For the record I own a Subaru WRX, a Jeep Cherokee, and Lotus Esprit (and even though I tried to convince her not to, my wife chose Toyota Corolla for her own vehicle, for the third time). The Jeep is the only domestic I've ever owned and it is, by far, the most problematic vehicle I've owned (I still love it though).

I do admit that I love the look of the Camaro, but the fact that it was recalled 2 days after it was available for sale says a lot about the car.

To be honest if I were in the market for a new car right now, I don't know who I'd choose. Probably a BMW 3 series if I could afford it (mostly because although I love my WRX, I hate the look of every Subaru currently for sale).

I consider myself pretty impartial when it comes to domestic vehicles, and I can tell you that anyone in my boat is going to choose Ford over either GM or Chrysler anytime in the near future based on the fact that they are the only company that didn’t go Bankrupt. I’m sorry, but I feel like everyone but Ford has burnt their loyal customers due to lack of foresight.

gta89mike

Ford Motor Company has 155195 not 148153 I think you missed Volvo.

Obama Motor Company sold Saturn and Hummer and Saab so there total is 167194 not 176,571

Ford (not with Lincoln Merc or Volvo) sold 133864 is the #1 Name Plate in June (not to be confused with Ford Motor Company)

Actually, gta89mike, you omitted several facts...

GM - 174,006 (20.2%)
Ford - 147,831 (17.2%)
Chrysler - 68,297 (8.0%)

Toyota - 131,654k (15.3%)
Honda - 100,420 (11.7%)
Nissan -52,298 (6.8%)
Other Japanese - 38,860 (4.5%)
Korean - 64,788 (7.5%)
European - 75,279 (8.8%)

That equates to 45.4% Big 3 and 54.6% Foreign. That means that in this recession, people are still choosing to purchase more foreign branded makes than domestic. (The "other" Japanese, Korean and European sales really add up.)

Well done people – well done:-) Very entertaining; kinda gives one a hankering for the old days on this here blog. Especially entertaining is the possibility that one here in ‘partic’ will regale us with their skilled use of Quatrains;-) I would ask, with all due consideration of course, that no allusions to 2012 be made as it tends to disturb Cool Dawg:-/ Thanks in advance;-)

DB9;-)

PS. Cool Dawg wants to know whatever happened to the drag race between the Insight and Taurus – like… well…? After all, wasn’t that all the rage before the GTR started to appear - around Christmas I believe… Ah forget about it…:-)) Wait, what's that... sumptin about kidding a kidder... Hmmm...

gta89mike Gm is declining rapidly with the Loss of Pontiac, SAAB, SATURN, HUMMER, SOON TO INcluded Buick, GMC and whatever else GM has'nt dumped other than just cadillac and chevy will bring that number down extremely rapidly. I can see Dodge overtaking GM and that will be a good day actually when GM is the smallest of the bog 3.. GM needs to learn to be Humble once again before it can walk again. But until day comes which I predict like Nostradamus that is not too far off.

Ford Motor shall lead in strength to be the Number #1 Manufacturer in the World not only in automotive but in Technology as well!

Where's Audi? What really surprised me is the very small number of Maserati sales. Their vehicles are priced similarly to higher end offerings from Mercedes so they should be still affordable. But 111 for the whole month in the US is shocking to say the least.

Bubs - maybe you are not aware of all of GM's brands.
GM - 176571
Ford - 148153

That, my friend, makes GM number 1, not Ford.

NMOforGM.......you need to pull you head out of your oil can! GM is back on the lower rung of the quality ladder! I've owned nothing but Chevy trucks/Suburbans for the last 20+ years. All manufacturers go up and down the quality scale...reliability scale.....desireability scale......but I must tell you that the Chevy line has had a steady decline in all the above "scales" for the last several years. I have been selling these POS for the past decade! I still buy/drive them cause I get them for a song! Sad as that may be! Ford is out of the question, as it still stands for.....well, we all know what FORD stands for. Dodge is dead! Japan.....NOT! So, who's left that might make a reasonable light duty truck? I'll probably go back to Chevy. I don't think the dealer would appreciate me driving up in brand X. Bye for now you idiot!!!

So many comments, but here are the facts:

1. GM at 176,571
2. Ford at 148,153
3. Toyota at 131,654
4. Honda at 108,700
5. Chrysler at 68,297
6. Nissan at 58,298

American owned sales - 393,021
Japanese owned sales - 298,652

Regardless of whose sales increased or decreased over last year, last month, last quarter, last decade - in this recession, people prefer to buy GM and Ford over Toyota and Honda. Those are the facts. Anyone saying anything else is just an opinion.

You in the liquor industry Leftwing, because I know it was one of their best months ever too last month too...

The company in which I work for alone made up for some of this decline as many fleet cars we used to purchase for our customers have held off leasing new units and keeping their old leases - we are in for a big boost soon though because that can't go on forever. The rental car side is also help off getting new inventory - we buy approx 7% of all new cars sold in the US - so those sales alone are hurting these numbers by quite a bit. I say in a little bit we will begin a big push and you'll start seeing many companies go up, by alot, because we are not the only ones holding off right now...

I think a lot of people on here think that having a negative number automatically assumes that they are losing money. That's not the case! So, Lets say VW sold one million cars(example), an 18% drop from last year only means they sold 180,000 less cars than the year before! It's that simple to comprehend! So, the difference between FORD's 8.3% drop compared to chevy's 33.3% drop is undeniably in fords favor! Especially when ford is selling more cars!

"Amazing… June 09 was the 3rd best month ever for my employer.

If we were off by 11% compared to last year I’d be out looking for a new job. It’s rediculous how flawed and backwards these companies have become."

first off, it's "ridiculous"...second, overall sales of cars across this entire nation will be lower this year than last year...fewer cars will be sold, due to the economic crisis...that has absolutely nothing to do with the performance of the manufacturers...none...zippo...zilch...nada...it's based on the fact we have huge job losses nation-wide, the highest unemployment in years, and a lot of belt-tightening...so sales of new cars will be lower across the board - and i repeat, that has nothing to do with the manufacturers themselves...

if you honestly think that ford, or any company, should be selling just as many cars during a recession that they did before the recession, you need your head checked...

Excuse me GM is just a mere This year Ford Motor is just a mere 34,478 vehicles away from GM that's it. that is a slippage of 26,996 vehicles over last. If that trend does continue. Ford could over take GM in total vehicle production with a year or two if that rate continues. GO FORD MOTOR! And if my prediction is right they certainly will with the all new Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury Line Ups
