Audi A4 Convertible production set to end this year

After a six year run, Karmann’s contract to build the Audi A4 Cabriolet will expire at the end of this year. Since Karmann began building the A4 Cabrio in 2002, 200,000 examples have rolled off the assembly line floor. Audi will replace the A4 Cabrio with its upcoming A5 convertible, but it will not be built by Karmann.

To commemorate Karmann’s last run of A4 convertibles, Audi will be offering a special ‘Advance’ option package for the car. According to AutoTelegraaf, cars equipped with the €2,950 Advance package will feature metallic paint, pearl nappa leather, parking sensors, steering wheel mounted controls, an alarm system, xenon headlights, Bose stereo and an integrated satellite navigation system.

The loss of the Audi A4 Cabrio contract is just one of the growing concerns facing Karmann. The fabled automaker has lost a significant amount of business in the last few years due to fewer contracts with carmakers and increased competition from developing regions — such as China and India.

Kinda funny to hear Karmann is in the league of Chery, Geely, and Tata.

The A5 Cabrio better not be built in China or India. I hope that the new A5 Cabrio is built better than the current A4 Cabrio and that was a great car although unfortunately only available with an automatic transmission.

I aint no car genius, but would it better celebration to extend Karmann contract for another 6 years? Or cancel convertibles altogether if hey don’t make money.
