NEW FUTURE MARKET
  • Ken Block takes the Fiesta to the snow [Video]

    By Mark Kleis

Ken Block will be strapping on his new Ford/Monster helmet for the first time for the Sno*Drift Rally America Series race today, but yesterday Block strapped some cameras onto his new Fiesta rally car and took to the Michigan snow for a little practice. Block managed to get the Fiesta well over 100 mph with stud-less tires during practice – let’s only hope he can do the same when it counts.

We don’t doubt Block is a nervous wreck with the pressure of his first official race looming, but that didn’t stop Block from providing some (mildly) entertaining footage for your enjoyment.

LLN, it’d be great to hear a report on the outcome of his first race!

Anybody know what that squeaking noise is?? Sounds almost like something un-oiled, or a rat?

We have someone at the races, so we will try to get an update up for you.

The noises have to do with the turbo – very normal for rally cars :)

What a brilliant little Fiesta. Does anybody know how these rally cars are modified compared to the normal versions, or at least for this Fiesta? For instance, it sounds like they’ve removed quite a bit of sound-reducing bits and pieces.

There is very little of a production Fiesta there. No sound deadening at all. They are completely gutted, cages built, suspension replaced, engine and tranny replaced, etc, etc. The basic shell is all that is OE.

sign up is in a dark corner of scandinavia not claimed by any of the competing countries. hallowed ground for the rally faithful. and kimi raikkonen.

move to colorado and drive in the mountains really fast – that’s how you learn to be a rally driver.

This isn’t your run of the mill Fiesta bought off the floor and then gutted. This is spec Fiesta built for rallying by Ford and the team. It’s based on the same thing they’ve been running in Europe for the longest time. And correct the chirping sound is the turbo. About time that there is going to be a competitor to the Subaru…which is a bit boring now.
Maybe it’s just me and watching real Rallying in Europe for so long has made the Rally America stuff a bit second hand. Hopefully investing in Ken Block will bring the WRC to the mainland!
