While the overall auto industry continues to sag, makers of smaller, more efficient vehicles continue to post impressive sales results. Kia announced on Friday that it had a record sales month in April, selling 30,066 units in the U.S. — a 15.6 percent increase over April 2007.
Kia's biggest winners were the Rondo, Rio, Optima and Spectra, with the Rondo crossover being the brand's biggest star. Sales of the Rondo were up a whopping 118.3 percent in April, totaling 4,052 sales. The Optima also saw impressive gains — up 89.3 percent to 4,550 sales, according to Automotive News.
Honda couldn't give precise April sales numbers due to a technical issue, but it is estimated that the Japanese automaker saw its April sales rise by 6.8 percent, totaling 135,000 units. Honda said that its Fit, Civic, Civic Hybrid and CR-V all set record April sales figures — thanks to the vehicles' excellent fuel economy ratings.
Despite the impressive month at Honda, it was quite another story at the marque's Acura luxury division. Acura sales were off 14.4 percent in April, likely due to the brand's aging passenger car lineup. All-new TSX, TL and RL models will be phased in over the coming months.

Starting from top…
Acura RL = Engine is crap compared to Lexus GS350 & Infiniti M35. No real reason to buy. Competition also offers AWD.
Acura TL = Current TL has a smaller engine than Accord. Huh? I know they are upsizing it soon, but that's still not a right over-lap.
Acura TSX = With new one just coming out, old model's sales will sag. Plus it's way too slow for the segment. Gets pumped by a much cheaper Accord V6. Stupid.
Acura RSX = Based on last-gen Civic's chassis. And you can get same engine in new Civic Si, for less price. In fact, you can get Civic Si for base RSX price. Go figure.
The only competitive vehicles in the market is the MDX. I feel RDX is a bit of a rip off. And that's about it for Acura. No real reason to buy.
Of course Honda went up because a bunch of people who used to waste their money on an Acura realized they could buy the same damn cars for thousands of dollars less. Perhaps people are finally waking up to the fact that Acura is not the full-fledged luxury car maker they pretend to be…
The all new TSX should sell quite well, but the rest of Acura's range is a little bit pathetic. The MDX is ugly, the RDX is too expensive and nobody wants the RL.

But Acura sales are going down the toilet since their products do not meet the "needs" of consumers. For a near luxury brand (probably playing odd-man out, compared to Lexus and Infiniti), it's not showing itself as the "advanced" product its marketing dept wants the general public to believe. It has some decent engines (far more fuel efficient than the aforementioned) but that's not going to win sales to a market that is far less sensitive to the price of oil than performance numbers. Their products, for the most part, is bland. Fit & finish … I like it a lot. Not so comfy like Lexus, but sporty. Infiniti has picked up their act several fold, but still a notch below Acura and Lexus.
Anyway … perhaps with the advent of new models (TSX, TL and RL … in that order) … sales will pick up. The TL has to be a hit … comes out this fall … or else Acura will be up the proverbial creek. Maybe with the NSX replacement and new RL … corporate's hopes of being a "Tier 1" luxury car (ie BMW, MB, etc) will come true. I'll see it to believe it!
GS400: Huh? The RL is AWD, actually better than standard AWD since it can distribute torques to more wheels. And the RSX has been discontinued a while back. Not to defend Acura but you may want to research your shit before speaking up.

I think the worst thing about Acura is that relatively speaking… they're a miserable failure. Honda had a real chance to be the king of the hill, at least amongst Japanese luxury makers, because by all accounts - Honda makes a better car than Toyota, but they were obviously inept with regard to the luxury market… Honda + leather + wood + a nav system does not a luxury car, make. At the very least, Toyota knew what to give people with Lexus… a big car with a V8 sending power to the rear wheels, opposed to just some V6, FWD, run of the mill, albeit gussied-up Honda.
There's only one reason why Acura isn't at the level Lexus has risen to today - Honda. If their cars weren't proof enough of that before, all one has to do is look at how their sales have been trending. The best thing Honda could do with Acura is just concede to Toyota (and even Nissan) and close up shop… because really, the market will definitely survive without another fake, poseur "premium" carmaker…
I would'nt go that far Bubs but Honda is a great company, and so is Toyota in their own right as well. You can't take anything away from either. They both strive for perfection something american companies only still talk about instead of doing.
Acura has been trying to find a niche in the luxury car segment for 20 years. This company has never been a serious competitor of BMW, Audi, Mercedes, and even Lexus. They need to have a car and an suv with a V8 engine because their V6 does not make them equil. Please bring back the NSX, the Legend, and a more upscale Integra.
Like I said last month Acura has no new models with the exception of the TSX which just came out. Adam is too busy drinking whiskey and driving Cadillac’s to post anything worthwhile. That’s why Honda is up and GM is down and GM is losing money. Acura TL = Current TL in Type S form has the same engine as the Accord and there is no 4 cylinder TL. The model is a carry over for the next couple of months but the statement is still incorrect. The overlap comes from the Accord being the more common car and it gets a 4 year redesign while the Acura’s get a 5 year redesign

Thanks captain obvious but since the TSX is a strong seller and had the best resale in 2007 I don’t think that Acura will have issues selling the previous model. I don’t even know why someone would mention the old model when the new model is out . The TSX is not in the segment with the Accord. I guess it’s more of a S40, Saab fighter and I’m sure that comment was just said without anything to back it up. TSX should be a great seller the last one was.

The MDX is a great seller. Has all the attributes of a great luxury truck. Beat out the Audi the Cadillac (Adam) and every other truck in a CD shoot out when it came out
I feel RDX needs a V6, I’m not buying a turbo 4 cylinder truck but it’s still a great truck. They are trying to market it as a sport techno truck but I think a v6 would be better.
There is every reason in the world to buy. They will have to change model more frequently to keep up with the comp. Perhaps Cadillac should concede. They already are getting rid of the STS and GMs sales are low and they have lost billions. With truck sales down the CTS is the only thing they offer and people are not buying that over the G35 or the 3 series so maybe Caddy should stop posing as a luxury sport car maker when they are really a square version of Buick

Ford Edge is outselling the MDX.
The RDX is doing fine without a 6 cylinder, if anything I'd just enlarge the current engine.
Cadillacs replacing the STS, not totally getting rid of it, GM's sales are still strong, including in other markets.
The CTS is posting record sales, while the G35 has been lagging slightly in recent months (66% increase from redesign of the G35, compared to about 120% increase from redesign of the CTS. The coupes sales have severely lagged from the G35, and according to you, it's alright for me to post these numbers as the G37 is unproven and sales numbers are not readily available). The future of Cadillac right now looks very bright, with the BRX, new BLS and this new full sized sedan coming out.
And despite what you think, the 92' and later Eldorado's and Sevilles were very nice vehicles. Of course, you wouldn't know, you've never ridden in one.

G35 is proven and its evolved to the g 37 proven performer with quationable gas mileage but its still a proven car and worth more than the Cimmaron Touring Sedan
Caddys are Buicks that are designed with an etch e sketch lol But they are nice looking and I think they do have a future ahead of them they are just not up to par with the Japanese and German comp thats all

Regardless, Big Brother knows things they don't want us to know whether they be terrestrial or extra-terrestrial. tripleonefive- If you've ridden in thousands of Cadillacs, then you'd know differently… Their large sedans have almost always been very comfortable, nice riding vehicles, not strung out like Mercedes, BMW's and the Japanese vehicles, they've always been calm, large and comfortable vehicles. They never tried to be the fastest, most expensive and most finely tuned vehicles, just relaxed, good looking and a statement.
It's not a big deal, no hard feelings; you obviously haven't driven a vehicle yet, I wish you the best of luck buying one sometime in the future. It's a great piece of machinery to own.

No big surprise for Honda and actually Acura. Big surprise Kia. I love Rondo looks and it will should sell well: it is large station wagon with room for 5 and luggage with 4 or 6 cylinders. I would bet that 4 cylinder outsells V6 in todays environment.
Honda success is obvious. They have strongest car lineup in the industry and trucks/CUVs/SUVs just don't sell when gas is $4/gallon. Before we start giving advise Acura on use of V8 and more power let see if BMW, Benz & Volvo did any better. My guess is you will not be able to find diesel Benz on a lot , regardless of price of diesel fuel. Everybody else is sucking wind, more or less.

I think the new one looks less sporty. More straight lines, less definition. The outgoing design looked a little bit more cab forward, had good visibility in front and from what I've read aside from actually sitting in the vehicle, rides nicely.
The Cimarron wasn't a disgustingly horrible car, but drive a real Cadillac, one of it's larger offerings, and something that's not based off of the J-body. Obviously, that would be the first car for you to choose to compare with others.

My friend has a Ford and is in the shop with it constantly so what? The Pilot is a proven and popular vehicle and I told you that it outsells the all 3 Lambdas and the design is 5 years old. It has a great track record and a high resale.
I saw the test of the new Pilot and it looks better than the last. I can even deal with the shifter sticking out of the dash. It’s clean and smooth looking and just like every other Honda It will be all over

I can't believe the Rondo is outselling the Rio. As far as Koren shitboxes go, the Rondo is downright nasty and the Rio is actually kind of cool. Not that I would ever buy it, but if I were a starving student scraping pennies together I would definitely consider it.

I think Kia is selling the Optima and the smaller cars I have seen the Rondo around and it is pretty nasty and not that spacious so I cant understand why they sell that but who cares. That SOul should sell well when it comes out

This is what ACURA GETS FOR NOT ENGINEERING ANY OF THEIR CARS FROM SCRATCH. Rebadging will only get you so far. Adding four wheel drive to FWD chassis is a band aid approach and will never yield the ultimate driving machine.
If the best thing you can say about your luxury brand is that they make great four cylinders. You have a problem.
@shaver I have an 08 RDX and you're off on both points here. The RDX is not just a rebadged CR-V; I compared both cars side-by-side several times before buying, and the RDX has a totally different driveline, brand-new engine (Honda's first production turbo, over 40 patented technologies including variable-intake and dual-compressor turbo) and a radically different suspension, not to mention a 100% different dash and interior layout. Acuras don't sell well because Honda does a poor job advertising them and communicating the brand message. And before you diss the 4-cylinders, remember that when gas hits $5.00+, those with small-displacement, high-output engines are going to feel more smug by the second. Any engine with less than 100hp/liter should be banned from production.
Your RDX is a joke … futuristic space vehicle with a guillotine grill … you'll understand in 5 years when you look at the design OBJECTIVELY.
If all you care about is aesthetics, then you really show your lack of knowledge about the topic.
Besides, my other car is a Subaru WRX, obviously a car being ugly hasn't stopped me before!
