We've been tracking the development of Ki's flagship K9 sedan for over two years now, but a new report suggests the rear-wheel drive four-door could bow by year's end.

According to Australi's Drive, Kia could be planning to unveil the production version of the K9 sedan at this fall's Frankfurt Motor Show. The K9 is expected to stand as a stepping stone between the Kia Optima and the Hyundai Genesis sedan.

Kia design head Peter Schreyer discussed the possibility of a big, rear-wheel drive sedan for Kia, but stopped short of confirming when such a model might bow. "I cannot talk about things that are probably in development," Schreyer said when questioned about the K9.

Expected to take design cues from vehicles like the BMW 7-Series and Maserati Quattroporte, the K9 will likely be powered by V6 and V8 engines. If the Kia K9 doesn't surface at the Frankfurt show, look for it to bow at next year's Detroit Auto Show.
