^^olds307.....Kia is not around to make Hyundai look "good" Hyundai does that by themselves, maybe Honda and Nissan are around to make Hyundai look good because the folks at Hyundai are out designing anything they've brought to the table and Hyundai has the performance and warranty to up the competition on either Honda or Nissan. And yes, Kia is yet to produce any vehicle special or desireable and yes the at the bottom of the automotive food chain, but Hyundai has developed over the past 5 years or so and has easily put a large gap between them and their korean counterpart kia. Hyundai is beyond Ford, Chevy, heck even Chrysler in my MOPAR biased mind, and is rivaling Honda and Toyota for the top spot and has equaled Nissan.

Ooo Kia is such a staple in the automotive world. This company is such a joke. I was told by a kia salesman when they first did their 10 year warranty thing that if I bought one I would definetly been using it, I hope he wasn't on comission. Also later that year a good friend of mine's dad drove an independant car hauler and Kia stopped paying his bill. He had to park a load of them at home until they coughed up the cash, and get this, they actually tried to pay him off in Kia's. TRUE STORY

WRX... UR taking this the wrong way... The old subies had the option of 2 doors so what's up with the 4 door comment? I never said the Kia would BEAT the STi, but it'd be in the same ballpark as far as numbers go. I'm also aware that HKA doesn't have much of a performance rep but hiring peter schreyer from audi will fix that.

Have i ever driven a car with 300HP to front wheels? hmmm, i've actually done just that. Being a member of the SCCA, i've driven many. You also have to remember that this car we're talking about is still in concept form and not even i know WHICH engine will be readily available.

oh, by the way... i'm a Kia employee. & not some salesman. So i might know a thing or two about what i'm talking about. ;)

JoshyLofty, you clearly have ZERO idea what you're talking about; that's the kind of statement people make when they know nothing about the STI or EVO besides what they read in a few forum posts. Giving a car 290 hp (and there's no way the car will ship with that) does NOT make it a contender alone. Have you ever driven a car with 290-300 hp to the front wheels? I have driven four of them, modified MazdaSpeed 3s, SRT-4rs and Civics. Even with a mechanical limited-slip differential -- something you will NEVER find on a factory car, thanks to insurance lawyers -- you have outrageous amounts of torque steer, iffy handling in corners and in general a tendency to light up the front tires every time you use first gear. No factory car out there comes with 290 hp to the front wheels (even the famed SRT-4 was only 250 hp) and there is a reason for it; average drivers simply could not handle it. Oh, and H A N D L I N G -- THAT's what Kia has ZERO reputation for, and what Mitsubishi and Subaru are world-renowned for, both companies having fielded dozens of record-smashing, podium dominating race teams over the past decade. Show me the Kia car in rally-winning form, then we'll talk EVO or STI competitor.

Furthermore, this little junkbox isn't aimed at the same market segment. Count the number of doors. What do the STI and EVO have? FOUR DOORS. This is a Chevy Cobalt competitor, and it will be 200 hp even when it hits the market, if that.

Oh, and olds307, the early 1990's called, they want their meme back.

I think Kia definitely needs to bring this to the U.S market, and I think it would do pretty well amongst the FWD, sun-compact coupe market.

civic or celica? I'm definitely not a fan of kia's but this specific car looks better than a civic or a celica. Celica was some ugly ass sh*t. The new civics are pretty decent. Minus the Civic type-r, I have to say this Koup, koop, coupe, or whatever the hell this is.. looks better.

I think it looks pretty slick. If the production sedan and coupe look anything like the concept or sketches that Kia have released, then it might have a fairly competitive entry in the compact segment. It would be the first Kia product that I would seriously consider buying.

I do think they still might want to consider a 5-door version based on the styling of the sedan and coupe. I know the Soul is supposed to handle this duty, but not everyone wants the practicality of a 5-door that looks like a box on wheels. A slick looking 5-door based on this car might make a strong competitor to the Mazda3.

PS - the Forte is also on a platform based on the next-gen Kia Cee'd. Guess GM isn't the only one that brings over the Euro-spec siblings of state-side cars.

Actually, the car is the Forte Coupe, the sedan will forgo Spectra and be Forte, & the Spectra5 will NOT be made as the Soul is its replacement. the new Rio & Rio5 are undetermined & the Hyundai Elantra touring are the US versions of the Kia Cee'd that everyone demanded Kia make state-side. The "Koup" is NOT AWD but front drive producing 290BHP with a 6speed manual. Expect the ForteCoupe to have all the luxuries of other cars in the market. Its meant to whoop the Si's rear end & follow up STi & Evo models. The world engine is due to be a next-gen engine that Mercedes (YES, MERC) will be using in their new models that they are purchasing from hyundai directly. Better MPG, more HP, & much better feel.

Wow.. did someone at HyunKia FINALLY wake up and realize that they were already marketing FIVE 5-door hatchbacks in this same basic segment (Hyundai Elantra Touring, Kia Rio5, Spectra5, Rondo and Soul) and decide to instead offer a coupe to finally make good on the promise of making Kia the "sporty" brand?

Apparently the sedan will be called Spectra, and other reports have this coupe being named Forte. I guess we will soon find out!

For those ho don't know what this car is. It is a 2.0 AWD turbo 6-speed. The engine is the Hyundai version of the World Engine. If your not sure what the world engine is, well it is the engine developed by Chrysler, Hyundai and Mitsubishi. The block was by Hyundai, the head by Mitsu and chrysler. Mitsu also uses this engine in the new Evo X. For those ho want to insult KIA, Your gonna have to insult Mitsu also as now they share powertrains.

I really like the looks of this car. Hopefully Kia does not change it. If they should change anything I suggest keeping the same look but putting on a hatch, like the Tiburon. This would make the car more versatile, and have an advantage over the competition. Civic, Focus, Cobalt/G5, Corolla/Matrix, Caliber, Golf/Rabbit, Astra, Mazda3, SX4 none of these cars have a hatchback that looks like a coupe. If this car's top of the line engine puts out 200hp plus it will be a real competitor in the crowded compact market. I think this car looks better/sportier than all the compact coupe's in production right now. Being a Kia, I think it will be priced lower than the competion and with Kia's 5 year warranty, that's sounds like a very good catch.

All (not half) engines are copy of German engines, except in Hybrids. It was Otto and Diesel (both German engineers) who patented them. 5 cycle engine used in hybrids is of British birthplace.

Don't be talking smack about German engines, half the engines in the world today are copies of German motors from as old as 1939. Even my beloved boxer motor is a copy of an older Audi engine and Porsche engine elements.

Now, THIS is the car that Kia needs to copy:

My favorite was the Sonata that had the front end of a Mercedes 300-series and the back end of a Jaguar, and the wheels of a 1996 Malibu.

It is impossible for Asians to copy German cars and vice verse. Japanese cars are tightly screwed with small fuel efficient engines. WV can not certify 4 cylinder non-turbocharged engine stateside. Actually their 4 cylinder version costs more then their 5 cylinder and sucks more fuel to boot. I think it is safe to say that either side will be better off not to copying each other (actually I don't believe German even can).

It really must look like a scene from an old Godzilla movie where panicked civilians are fleeing the city when the copier breaks down at Kia headquarters.

When it comes to market, it looks nice, its priced low, and it has a 100,000 / 10 year warranty. I'm sure consumers are not going to be complaining that it looks a bit like an Acura.

The more trouble there is with the economy, the more units Kia will be able to move as everything comes down to affordability.

Kia has to copy Honda/Acura designs bc those are the car that people want. I think its smart to do so. Make a car look like the car people are buying then just undercut the price and its magic.
If kia was smart they would make some tuner parts for this car so it can take some sales away from the Scion TC
