Three sneak peaks at Kia’s Soul

Three variations of Kia’s new, as-yet-unreleased Soul compact crossover were showed off in Geneva today. The cars are concepts that preview the new compact crossover, due for its World Premiere at the Paris show in September. Dubbed Kia Soul Diva, Soul Burner and Soul Searcher, each is a different route consumers will be able to take with their own Soul, much in the same vein as Toyota’s Scion brand.

The Diva is a fashion accessory for style-conscious women of all ages, and sports a full-length panoramic glass roof to show off its glossy black leather seats, quilted stitching and long-pile shag carpet.

The Soul Burner is the outcast of the group, with dragon ‘tattoos’ proudly displayed on its flat black body panels, LED driving lamps and vertical exhaust pipes. The interior features a menacing visual split, with the top covered in a vibrant red and bottom half of the cabin deep black.

Finally, the Soul searcher is the yogi of the group, signifying a comfort zone on wheels, providing a respite from the urban jungle. It was built up with muted colors, soft textures and general neutrality. The interior is finished in grey beige felt, along with pre-aged leather.

“The all-new Kia production car will defy classification and encourage customers to build an emotional bond with their new car by providing a creative platform that they can customize to match their own character,” said Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer for Kia Motors Europe.

Although Kia failed to release any details on the car, it is believed power will come from a 2.0L four-cylinder mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.

  6. Loved the original Xb-Hate the new one. From what I can see of this Kia, it looks much better than the current Xb. But I’m not that type of person who says “Look out Scion!” or “This will kick the Xb’s Ass!” Those are stupid statements…Everyone will get their sales. No matter what the Scion looks like, it will probably always outsell the Kia. Being connected to Toyota will do things like that.

  7. Are you sure that’s a drum? I kinda see a bit of shine. I’ve never seen a shiny drum before. Not that I care, I wouldn’t buy one of these things anyway.

  8. From the 1/4 of the car that we get to see, it looks interesting. But with its drum brakes and 2.0 liter mated to a 5 speed auto, I don’t know how much fun it’ll be to drive. All show and no go it seems.

  9. Kia ****burner.

I like the tattoo on the rear flank of the car. That might be a new design direction that’ll catch on. I can picture silver tattoo on a white car, or grey on black. Looks good.

  13. I’m still confused as to why Kia insists on putting a grille shaped like the Honda “H” on their future models?

  15. Funky..not too bad.

Who cares about drums, not like this is a performance car anyways.

Not for me because 1) it’s a Kia and 2) no need and 3) I’d look like an idiot driving this thing to work.

  18. Kia’s thinkin’ “Watch yo back, Scion.”
Toyota’s thinkin’: “What a bunch of dumbasses.”

  19. jjt, Scion had drums. I liked old xB as well. And surprisingly it drives quite well with 1.5L and manual. It was moving. New xB is juts another version of Toyota and I don’t see large number of them on the road.
Kia has decent shapes. Rondo looks great. I never saw one in my town: even high school kids don’t have them. It is ghetto car or down on your luck set of wheels. I don’t see Kia ever troubling Toyota or anyone else for that matter.

  27. lines are good, canvas roof is cool; liked it from CV-2 days. There is a third pedal and shifter looks manual, so where LLN discovered 5 speed auto?

  28. I see a black one, a white one and a silver one. But then again, I’m so far from generation Y they’ve moved on to the Klingon alphabet.

  29. The designer must have watched the last Spiderman movie to paint all those evil black lines all over it. Weird man.

  32. I don’t know why this piece of **** is getting this many feeds on LLN - it’s totally lost in a sea of similar CUV/minicars that hit LLN every hour.

  33. So Kia is making a Scion, at least they decided to put the gauge cluster in the right place.
