South Korea’s Kia said today it would build its first U.S. vehicle assembly plant in West Point, Georgia. The will be designed to produce as many as 300,000 vehicles a year, creating 2,500 local jobs. “Kia has entered an aggressive growth phase in the U.S.,” Kia Chief Executive Chung Eui-sun said. Wow. This is really the last move I expected from Kia. I know that their company is growing and that their sales are increasing a lot, but I didn’t expect them to do this for another few years.

The question is, how much of the taxpayer’s money did Georgia agree to funnel into Hyundai’s coffers? I hope the deal is at least as much as they got in Alabama, or Dell got in NC.
