Kit gives old Audis new single-frame grille

07/05/2006, 8:39 AM

By admin

Making old cars look new again has been a popular theme among German car tuners lately. First there was the Hamann kit to make the 996 Porsche 911 look like the new 997. Then we told you about the Z-Art conversion package to make the 986 Boxster look like the new model. Now, Audi tuner CarLine has put together new single-frame grille packages for the previous-generation Audi A4 and Audi TT. The kits give Audi’s past models the automaker’s new corporate face, plus some euro-style taillights. Gallery after the jump…

nasty. they should do the reverse and made a conversion kit to fit to the new models, giving them the far classier appearance of the old ones.

Tired of driving a good looking Audi? Would you like that gigantic goofy grin that has become the trademark of new Audis? We can help…

The new grill makes perfect sense if you see the history of Audi and Auto Union. Just because you don’t understand it doesn’t make it ugly.

I did not like it at first, but now I like the new corporate grill. I think these kits are stupid though.

They will sell like hotcakes over here, the Germans are some “Car Tuning” fools.
They ALL [Damn near] take that “Pimp my ride” stuff to the extreme. Dunno how many time I’ve met [even women] “Oh, you’re American? _I just LOOOVE PMR_ I wish I …… ” You get the point.

But I disagree, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Understanding the history of Audi and Auto Union has no bearing on whether the new look is ugly or beautiful. However, the general concensus from Audi owners (and people that don’t currently own Audis) that I know is that they love the cars’ looks but absolutely hate the new grill.

The ‘consensus’? Do you have your polling data? How did you compile the statistics? I mean seriously, you just talked to a few people and they don’t like the grill. You should check out Audi forums to actually see what current and past owners are saying regarding the grill and seeing if they like it.

I would like to mention that Audi sales are up, thus more people tend to like the new grill (among other aspects of the car) than the previous design. The history of Audi and Auto Union design does make sense as to why the grill looks the way it does.

I think posting anonymously is ‘ghey’ (and cowardly). Oh and do you use the pseudo-word ‘ghey’ because you lack the vocabulary to properly express yourself or because you lack the mental ability to do so?

Jon, lighten up. If you go back and read what I wrote you’ll see that I stated “from Audi owners that I know.” At no time did I say that I went out and polled every Audi owner in the planet. Tastes differ, I personally find the new grill ugly but some people may find it a huge improvement – that’s what’s great: everyone is entitled to his/her opinion.

I had my qualms about the new grille design at first, but I’ve slowly come to realize that it really flows well into there new designs. And that kit really does wonders for that TT. It looks modest and goes well with the car.

Right on Jon. Right off, Ed.

Ed, a difference of opinion is one thing, but if you dont have anything to support your opinion (like perhaps describing what exactly you find so unattractive about the new grille), then your opinion is worthless.

The TT looks Good. But the A4 b5 looks okay, The girls does look good on it, its just the bottom side flares that killed that front bumper. If they fix the side flares, That grill may just work.

If I had an Audi w/ the new grille I’d happily trade it with someone who wants to get rid of their old bumper.

instead of converting it to the new look, how about going all the way to the old-school auto union look? no stupid plastic bar across for the license plate (front license plates suck!) and vertical, metal bars?
