Still don’t like the front end. Also, I would MUCH PREFER the Swift than the SX4. It’s should be sold over here with the expanding sub-compact segment, but no, the one company who made the Swift and Geo Metro (And another one who sourced another company to make the Aspire / Fiesta) are both MIA in this segment!

This is the only good concept at Tokyo so yea build it. I don’t like hearing that it will be toned down though. As long as it doesn’t end up another Toyota-like pile of nothing then it’s fine.

Suzuki is not an upstart, their bike sales are unbeleivable. They are a massive corporation that decided they feel like expanding the cager side of things. I guarantee nothing but massive success.

autonut: I was referring to their global sales numbers which are very impressive compared to previous years due to much more modern sleek designs. The Swift recently beats the Fit though that could be because everyone’s waiting for the new model. I also know first hand that their factories are woking their ass off to keep up with the global demand. In some countries, the waiting period for the SX-4 is all the way to next June. It’s just amazing but in their expansion process they really screwed many of their longtime dealers.

It’s funny to see the big Japanese companies (Toyota, Honda) falling victim over to the same mistakes the US big 3 did. Stodgy, conservative, boring styling, quality issues, and relative “upstarts” like Hyundai, Suzuki, and Mitsubishi (not to mention the coming onslaught by Chinese and Indian companies) nipping at their heels.

Is there is any evidence of of Suzuki expanding? In US they introduced one of their own cars SX4 and although it is attractive for my taste, I haven’t read anything suggesting the car had set the world on fire. The engine is 2.0L generating somewhere around 140HP and 130+ lbs. The car is standard 4 wheel drive a’la Subaru. Suzuki has been selling Daewoo (GM fully owned subsidiary) cars in states, but they are so poorly constructed that there were articles in WSJ about falling out between Suzuki & GM (as much of falling out can be between part-owner and part-subsidiary). Perhaps Suzuki moves up the food chain in Japan, but in Europe there are mor Hyundai cars sold now then Suzuki.

Suzuki is expanding worldwide at an extremely fast rate, faster than any other Japanese brands. It’s no surprise given their recent products that are actually better than Honda in many areas. They do need to work on their below standard transmission though.
