Koenigsegg Agera RS beats Chiron's 0-249-0 mph record

The Swedish megacar has set a new benchmark at 36.44 seconds, requiring little more than 1.5 miles of pavement.

Koenigsegg's Agera RS has set an impressive new benchmark in the 0-249-0 mph test, apparently dethroning the Bugatti Chiron.

Factory driver Niklas Lilja completed the feat in just 36.44 seconds at the Vandel Airfield in Denmark, requiring 26.88 seconds to reach 249 mph and just 9.56 seconds to come to a halt.

The achievement appears to represent a significant jump over the Chiron's recent 42-second run.

The particular Agera RS driven by Lilja was equipped with the 1MW engine upgrade, raising output to 1,360 horsepower and 1,011 pound-feet of torque. It is bound for the US market, but the buyer was apparently eager to let Koenigsegg verify the car's performance.

The company says the airstrip concrete was not ideal, requiring traction control intervention at a 113-mph gear change.

The upcoming Regera will eventually be put through the same trial to further widen the gap with Bugatti.
