In the world of high-dollar ultra-exotic supercars, Swedish automaker Koenigsegg is certainly no stranger, but arguably gets less respect than deserved when compared to others such as the well-known Bugatti Veyron.

That might soon change as the automaker announced that it went about testing several acceleration and deceleration times in its impressively fast Agera R, setting a few world records in the process including the fastest acceleration from zero-to-200 miles per hour in just 17.68 seconds.

(More after TEASER video)

While we realize the video lacked the juicy fun of the actual record-setting runs, keep in mind that it is only intended to be an appetizer to whet your appetite until a more complete, better produced video can be put together, says Koenigsegg.

As for the specifics of the records (still awaiting official certification from Guinness), they are astonishing and quite numerous. The zero-to-300 kmh (about 186mph) sprint took a scant 14.53 seconds, while the sprint to 200 mph took 17.68 seconds.

Stopping the Agera R from the previously mentioned speeds would take just 6.66 seconds or 7.28 seconds, respectively. In fact, Koenigsegg even officially record such jaunts, with a zero-t0 300kmh-to-0 test taking just 21.19 seconds, while the similar test to a top speed of 200 mph took a total of 24.96 seconds.

So some of you must be wondering, “Does that mean the Agera R is faster than the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport?” Well, unofficially, in certain tests – yes. For example, taking the Super Sport from a dead stop to 300 kmh would consume 16.7 seconds – lending a fairly considerable advantage to the Agera R’s 14.53 seconds.

We anxiously await the final video and confirmation from Guinness, as this will almost certainly spark a new fire within the Bugatti development team’s push for supremacy.
