Volkswagen and DaimlerChrysler revealed today at the 2006 Los Angeles auto show plans to co-develop a minivan for the U.S. market. The VW van will share underpinnings with vehicles from the Chrysler and Dodge brands. However, VW’s Wolfgang Bernhard said the VW van will be a unique product, rather than a re-badged Chrysler. VW hopes the family-friendly offering will help it reach a new American demographic previously untapped by the German automaker. Production is slated for 2008, and no further details are available at this time.
