Just so you don’t call me a GM follower, know that I currently own vehicles from GM, Ford, and Chrysler.

As for the future of the Big Three, I think Mulally is steering them Ford in the right direction. He’s calling for future platforms (not cars) to be common around the world. I’m hopeful that we’ll start seeing more products in the near future that appeal to those of us who prefer sytling and handling of european cars.

Chrysler – I’m VERY intrigued by the union with Fiat. Will the quality and products be there? I don’t know, but I’m curious to see how it rolls out. My biggest “worry” would be for GM. They will be under the worst scrutiny by customers and the government. They may have also shot themelves in the foot with some of their recent sales announcements. Opel is being sold and I find them to be the most appealing of GM platforms sold in the US. Saab is being sold and has been set up with the latest Opel platforms which could really hurt the new Buick lineup for competition. Saturn (which everyone thought might die) may have a chance under Penske, esp if aligned with another company (rumors of talks with Nissan for designs and powertrains… very interesting).

Obviously, it’s going to take time to see what happens. But you all have to admit that these developments are certianly more interesting to watch than the way the Big 3 had been going in prior years. Just look at it as another popular reality show.

Yet , the pain we are going to through when the Federal bill comes due is going to collaspe this once great country.

Did anyone notice that numbers released yesterday showed that foreign governments only purchased 11 billion dollars of our debt, the month before they purchased 55 billion dollars of U.S. debt. Where will we get the money all of these bailouts if no one is buying our debt?

Well….we can always just print more money….Obama Bucks… always has worked for other countries like say Germany, Agrentina, Poland, etc.

The ONLY reason Ford is not taking (they have already asked) for government money is due to a $21.5 billion loan they took as of January ‘09. When that money is gone they will take the money from the government IF they will let them have it.

drfill, i’m hopeful for ford due to the fiesta, but if that bombs i’ll be worried…i’m happy with their position with respect to returning to profitability, even if i’m not that enthused about their entire lineup…although you have to admit the 2010 mustang holding it’s ground against the camaro and challenger was a good showing…

the anti-obama stuff does get tiresome, though, it’s not like you guys are actually proving a point, you’re just flaming somebody who you personally have demonized (who will never see what you wrote)…don’t pretend for a second your blathering is going to affect anybody else’s opinion on the matter…you’re really just mentally whacking off by posting that crap again and again and again…

So now, instead of human beings pushing themselves and pushing each other to higher and higher goals and relishing in the accomplishment, we have industry dumbing down to the lowest common denominator.
America used to be the land of the brigthest, hardest working thinking people this palnet has ever seen.
Now we are rapidly sinking into common, below average workers, just there for check.

Well I say it’s time we all grew a Pair, and told the goverment where to get off the gravey train. It is time to throw mediocre ideas and work and return to hard working, thinking people.
I for one do not want to sit around a wait for a goverment check, a goverment car , a goverment apartment and of course my goverment issue toliet paper.
And that friends is where this is all leading, very fast.

Managed bankruptcy handled by the courts according to rule of law is how it should have been done. Rule of law basically states secured bondholders have “dibbs” on the assets – not the feds, and not the UAW. Courts take their claims into account, balance it to an extent with other claims such as the UAWs and the Feds, review the resultant new corporate structure, and dish it out the goods accordingly with preference to the secured bondholders. That is why they paid a premium (in the way of lower returns) to hold secured bonds, and instead they were strongarmed and threatened ala Hugo Chavez’ style tactics to relinquish their claims for a political payoff.

In the scenario that I laid out, which is the normal scenario and happens often in business, the economy goes on and the vendors get mostly paid, but theft of assets by politicians to pay their cronies does not occur. What Obama (yes, HE and his thugs PERSONALLY) did in this scenario is tell everyone who wants to invest in this country that their assets may be robbed for Obama’s (or the next guy’s) private political obligations. That is a disincentive to investment, and if you follow business cash flows right now you’ll see it is turning against the USA in a big way. Obama’s not stupid and knows that means long-term political harm to him so he will try to kiss and make up, but it’s going to be a helluva lot harder now simply because he did not take the 3rd option and instead chose politics. That’s exactly what I would expect from someone who does not understand business, which is what he is.
