Dutch auto magazine AutoTelegraaf has published an interview Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini. When asked about the possibility of the highly-rumored Lamborghini SUV and 2+2 grand tourer, Winkelmann said no final decisions have been made. He did, however, confirm plans for a rear-wheel-drive version of the popular Lamborghini Gallardo. The RWD model would likely be lighter and less luxurious than its all-wheel-drive counterpart. When asked about overlap between the Audi and Lamborghini lines — in light of Audi’s R8 supercar announcement — Winkelmann said he believes there will be no cannibalization of sales, and Lamborghini will remain the top marque in the Volkswagen Group. The Leftlane perspective: This could be good news for Audi fans. If VW wants to keep the Audi R8 out of Lamborghini territory, then it may have to price the R8 lower than most “supercars.”
