When Lamborghini first unveiled the Sesto Elemento, the concept car was intended mostly to be a design study and a hint at the future direction of the company, but after fans (with deep pockets) expressed immense interest for the model, the Italian automaker eventually caved to the demands.
Following months of rumors, Stephen Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini, confirmed at the Frankfurt Motor Show that the Italian automaker would be moving forward with a limited production run of the Sesto Elemento.
“The excellent feedback and the numerous requests we’ve had from our customers have really convinced us to embark on the challenge of producing a vehicle with unique characteristics,” Winkelmann said on the sidelines of the Frankfurt show. “We are proud that what a year ago was just a ‘technology demonstrator’ of future super sports cars, even though in working order, will become a small series reality. Only 20 units of the new Sesto Elemento super sports car will be produced, and will be destined only for track use. We’re planning to deliver the first cars at the beginning of 2013.â€
But in the event that you are a million or billionaire and fancy the lines of the Sesto Elemento, we must also break the unfortunate news that the model has already been completely spoken for – all 20 examples.
The largely carbon fiber-based supercar is expected to blast from a dead stop to 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds, thanks to its ultra light weight (just 2,200 lbs!) and 5.2-liter, Gallardo-sourced V10 powerplant.
