Lamborghini Countach hung on millionaire’s wall

05/15/2006, 10:02 AM

By admin

Some millionaires decorate their mansions with rare paintings. Richard Moriarty bolted a 1974 Lamborghini Countach to the wall of his Newport Beach estate, reports the LA Times. Earlier, the car’s engine was removed and transformed into a “200-mph coffee table” for guests who prefer their drinks “shaken not stirred,” said Moriarty. While some automotive purists may cringe at the thought of using a Lambo in this way, Moriarty’s reasoning is somewhat understandable. Moriarty bought the car 10 years ago, paying a collector $60,000. But the upkeep was a nightmare — the gas tank had rust damage, and the engine kept stalling. “I got tired of having it towed,” he said. Full Gallery Here.

If I had that kind of money, I’d put it to some good use – like donating to charity so they may help people with diseases (cancer etc.) – instead of using it for a ridiculous thing like this. But, whatever floats your boat. :-/

Daaaaamn, guy puts his lambo on the wall and people start hating big time!! This is incredibly cool and like the article says, the car was a piece of **** that kept on breaking down, so the guy put it to good use– this vehicle IS automotive art. And the tire scuffs on the wall idea is also bad ass. Congratulations to Moriarty.

Good grief everyone is judgemental. I am sure that people less financialy well off than you would probably think the way you spent money was obnoxious, idiotic, or uncharitable. Well, only if they were as judgemental.

To each his own…and its not like people have done worse things with money(like start wars). Its also not like I’ve never dreampt about parking my dream F50 in the living room under a clear plexiglass case that connects from the garage!

This guy took a dream and made it a reality and the best news of all for all the Haters is that quite simply, if you dont like it, you dont have to visit this mans house and view it. If it was some piece of public art that your tax dollars helped pay for, then Hate all you want but this is a private display of individuality that normally can only be seen in the underground…

That is one of the stupidest comments ever. Did he tell you how much he donates to charitable organizations? No? Too bad.
So I guess according to you he’s supposed to send ALL of his money to charity so he can buy nothing that other people might perceive as WRONG.

Oh btw, what’s with that PS2 or that Ipod you bought? That’s totally ridiculous as well! You can live without those, so you should have send that money to charity.

Man, you don’t believe how much I hate people who have so much jealousy. “I don’t have it, so he can’t have it!!!!!”

Okay then Mike, I wasnt specifically referring to Iraq but since you mention it, what exactly is “terrorism”? Or have you been a pawn so long that you actually forgot what its like to think independently and thus prefer to believe everything your gov’t tells you, in which case Terrorism can be defined as “violence or ideas that currently do not align with whatever the current American leader believes or justifies at the time?”

All I can say definitively at this point in time is that much of our world lacks “common sense” on the surface and therefore a multitude of underlying agendas therefore MUST be at play – sure its easy to sit back and enjoy our individual lives and “hope and trust” our gov’t is looking out for our best interests but that only works temporarily(and only for people who are the wealthy whose only interest is “conserving” their wealth/lifestyles). Unfortunately, reality has already proven out many times over that this is just a convenient, overly-optimistic approach that once the true reality is borne out, it is already too late.

For example, the recent NSA data reports show TENS of MILLIONS of Phone Records were shared etc. The issue is that only 30% of Americans found this CONCERNING – the other 70% found it acceptable “in the name of fighting terrorism.” All I can say is that 70% figure, of which you’re likely a subscriber, is the SCARIEST thing of all. Either you trust these morons and believe their nonsense (all convenently dished out in the “name of 9/11″) or are too busy in your own action-filled life or too lazy to actually care about YOUR RIGHTS! Yes, believe it or not, YOU have rights but pretty soon, all your trust, busy-ness and laziness will have you wake up one day to find that you no longer live in a “free” country and your non-defense of your own rights will have led you there – all because its just so much “easier” to believe that everything Bush says is true.

Ultimately, I remember just a few years ago when 70% of the country still supported Bush and now 70% oppose – I only hope that such a similar turnaround in the numbers occur in which Americans actually value and defend their apparent freedoms…before they are gone.

The world is not as it seems – do not be afraid to investigate your own questions for yourself and you will likely find information that leads you to conclusions that most people’s egos on this earth at this time could never even handle…if you can find a way to handle/process such information, then you will be one of the few “in the know” rather than “in the dark” and thus much more able to actually BE a “true” American than just another pawn.

I say, well done.
Granted that would not have been my first thought, but as the article stated the car looks better that it drives (it does not drive, the engine is in bad shape).
As for what he could’ve done with that money, well, as long as he does not use it to hurt people (hire killers, buy nuclear waste and dumb it in my backyard, etc), that’s his business.
Now I want to see that coffee table.

For a complete art ignoramus like me a Countach makes for a far more interesting sculpture than some wickedly expensive little chunk of copper. Besides, just about anyone who grew up in the 70s and 80s lusted after a Countach without knowing what the (harsh) reality of owning one would be like. If I had that kind of money I would do the same thing with an Esprit S1 and a DeTomaso Mangusta. Great to look at, not so great to own and drive…

Asher: A terrorist is someone who kills or injures civilians to make a political statement.

I am not going to respond to your other points, but don’t you even think about saying that terrorists (to the administration) are just those who disagree, wait, you did.

Where did you get that **** from? You were accusing him of throwing his money away instead of donating it. And I say that you have no clue what he’s doing with his money, so you have no right to accuse him of anything. He could be earning 10 million a year and donating 9 million of that for all you know.
So stop with your “I am superior to all of you” attitude and get back to the real world.

Ever tried to sell a stalling rusty gas tanked Countach?

Charity is great, I remember in the 70’s a nice man from Texas had ripped leather seats in his plane. He even had to throw a damn towel over the rips and tell his friends the seats were wet. All until Navin R. Johnson coughed up some dough from his OptiGrab empire to allow this nice man to fly his friends to the SuperBowl like a Man.

I’d prefer the F40 coffee table when available please.
